    Diet Sodas?????

Can you drink Diet sodas while dieting? Not looking to be a bodybuilder, just get back into shape. Just curious since it has 0 carbs, etc. I know it has sodium, but how bad is diet soda when dieting?

sodium is not a huge problem as long as you drink 2 gals of water ED.

The less of it of course, is better.

the real concern with this issue is the effects of aspartame in the body. It contains phenalanine (sp?) which inhibits the body's ability to create seratonin. Since seratonin is associated with feelings of satiety, by decreasing it you may feel hungrier. Aspartame has also been associated with exacerbating mood disorders

Unless you consume 7,000,000 gallons a day you are fine.

If you are seriously cocerned about cutting or getting into shape, I would cut the Soda out completely. I drink Crystal light whenever I have sugar craving and it does the job. cheers!

Ditto. It's one of the few things that make me feel like a regular person when cutting. I see no reason to cut it out.

Why is this? Many competing bodybuilders drink diet soda when cutting. Some... all the way up to the competition. Why would 1 diet soda a day be detrimental in terms of cutting and getting in shape?

For me eating or drinking anything sweet leads to a craving for more.

I always figured anything to do with soda was completely horrible. I guess I kinda view the Diet soda as the gateway to sweets just like weed is gateway to drugs. I want more sweets after I have more. Thats just me tho. ;P

Diet Rite I think doesn't have aspartame in it, or caffein, or calories.... makes me wonder what the hell is in it.

Thanks so much for the replies. I am not looking to overdo it, just maybe 2-3 cans of diet soda a day. It doesnt lead me to want sweets, it actually craves my need for sweets! Other than diet soda all I drink is water, although I dont drink enough and I know this. I used to have no problem consuming 1-1.5 gallons of water a day, now I barely drink at all! I dont know why. Need to get more liquids in my system and start forcing myself to drink more water.

There is no sugar, no calories. Only aspartame and citric acid, among some other ingredients I dont remember off the top of my head
