Well your muscles need proteins and if you didn't have protein with every meal, you would be losing mass and that would be an incomplete meal. The meal would be useless to your body without the protein.Originally Posted by svartur

What he said.
I know its recommended to keep protein constant i.e. not having 80g in one meal and 40g in the next etc. I would assume so your body gets use to breaking down that set amount.
I try to keep it about 40g every 3 hours with or without fats or carbs
If you had protein without fat or carbs it would be an incomplete protein meal.Originally Posted by Puffader

Keeping constant serum protein levels is highly dependent upon the quality of protein you consume....equally as important as how much you eat and when.
Obviously, whey (isolate/concentrate) is utilized in your system within the hour and even faster with dextrose PWO. Casein can go between 3-5 hrs because it turns into gel in the stomach. Cooked eggs, and meat proteins roughly take 4-6 hours to get completely absorbed.... And if thats not all, throwing fats and fiber (like nuts and flax, etc) into the mix will slow the absorption of all protein classes even more (maybe 30 min -2 extra hrs), not to mention even nuts and vegetables have some protein in them although they are incomplete and should be complemented with complete sources to count towards aggregate protein intake.
These are the sort of considerations one must make when planning out a meal around ones work schedule and training. For example, I eat roughly 65 grams of protein at breakfast, 33% from whey (quick release, for immediate supply after fasting all night) , 33% from eggs (slow release, lasting me till my next meal) and 33% from the oats/nuts (v.slow release due to the fiber and fat, which allows baseline levels for many hours later..it also slows the other 66% by a bit as well)..
just my humble .02

Yea, I eat broccoli with every meal pro/carb or pro/fat (usually 2 cups) and throw olive oil on top or eat PB or full fat mayo with chicken.Originally Posted by Hackamaniac

just similar, a few grams wont make a difference
You don't stay on a protein only diet bro.. you deplete yourself and then go keto for a day or two and then fill your glycogen stores back out, actually an extremely effective way to lose fat if done properly although it's not an easy thing to do.Originally Posted by IronFreakX
I take in 40-50grams/meal as well, you will get fats from your meats and either have a good low GI carb source and/or Veggies with each meal except for the instance talked about above.

Bro, I'm not talking about a ketosis diet. I'm referring to the cutting diet that gits rid of body fat and keeps lean muscle mass.Originally Posted by europeandancer

Nark and BS both really said what I believe as well. I keep it at 60g per meal and only ever alter the carbs, I dont count fat either but have on serving of flax daily.

No.. It happens if you're taking in more protein than your body can utilise.Originally Posted by spittin' 'n cussin'
I use to experience this (ammonia smell in sweat).. but no longer.
I don't ingest as much protein as most guys here do.
