I usually have a good pro/carb meal with really low GI complex carbs to keep energy up throughout the entire workout. This is usually 1 - 1.5 hours before lifting, depending on what I will be training that day. Than 30mins before lifting I consume some amino acids and a relatively high GI carbs source (not much) just like a bit of gatorade or whatever to fill liver glycogens for extra energy while training as well.
