Any truth to this rumor about natural test and night time?

I read in an article earlier (cant find it now! ) that you should avoid eating carbs/sugars 4 hours before bed. It said something about that it forces/helps your body to produce more test naturally. Any thoughts?

read somewhere that eating carbs to close to bed time can hinder the release of growth hormone which is released in the first couple of hours of sleep.
not sure bout the test thing though.

Maybe thats what it was, the GH factor. I never knew this

I always avoided carbs/sugar before bed b/c I heard it turns to fat, but looks like theres and added bonus now.

When you sleep at night thats the time when your body undergoes its growth and repair phase. Many of the most anabolic as well as catabolic hormones are released in much higher amounts than in the daytime, with the exception of insulin. There is lots of speculation to what types of substances that are ingested that can effect these hormones. But one has to remember that these increases in GH, Test, ect are not increase that are huge or will cause anything outside of normal. True that GH and test will increase dramatically on days that a bout of exercise was done. But it is no different than that of a hard day of physical work. So supplementing with substances to increase these levels will work for awhile until your body builds up an tolerance to the drugs and your feedback mechanisms adapt. A few years ago there was some research being done on ingestion of foods with high amounts of cholesterol. The idea being that Cholesterol is the backbone of all steroid chemistry. If you increase the amount of cholesterol then you potentially increase the amount of testosterone that can be produced. It was found that this indeed occurs in rats but the rats had much greater increases in LDL levels relative to testosterone. The rats also showed an increase in all the problems associated with increased cholesterol. Which lead the researchers to conclude that it was much more important to have a steady and balanced diet to help maintain normal or high normal test levels than it was to load up on a particular substance to increase it. Hmmm imagine that everthing in moderation.

In lamest terms It doesn't matter if the calories are carbs, fats, or protien because it all will turn to fat. Any leftover calories will turn to fat. Even vegetables will turn to fat if your taking in more calories than your body can expend.

It all, in base form, is energy(calories) and if the body does not utilize it, it goes to storage.

Then whats the point in drinking Casein Protein before bed if it just turns to fat?

protein does not turn into fat. any leftovers comes out the A- hole i would think.

im pretty sure it does not turn into fat.

    Eating before bed

    Why is it bad?
If you're seeking sweet dreams, avoid eating before bedtime. While no conclusive studies prove that eating before bed leads to weight gain, eating too much food, or eating spicy foods, fatty foods and caffeine one to three hours before bedtime can reduce the quality and length of your sleep, making you fatigued, sluggish and generally not fun to be around the next day. Eating fatty foods before bed will slow down the emptying of the stomach, exacerbating indigestion, while spicy foods can lead to heartburn and indigestion.

I found this on the net...so its ok to have my casein/flax shake before bed?

Its called biochemistry and its very real. Any and all forms of energy consumed can be converted into fat. Proteins have carbon and hydrogen atoms in them. They can be seperated from the amino groups and converted to fatty acids much the same way that sugars are converted. Any reserve protein goes into whats called the amino acid pool, which is a fictional reserve but explains what happens to amino acids derived from proteins. In this pool the amino acids that were broken down from the proteins can be used as a fuel source or used to create other nutrients like nucleotides or creatine. If any unused portion exist then it can be converted to fat and even carbohydrates in two way reactions. The body is very good about utilizing energy as you can see.
