    Empty cals

For example, my flax oil. It has 14 g. of fat. 1 serv is 1 tblsp and that should equal 120 cals.

However, do the math and 9 cals per gram of fat, and 14 grams of fat equalls 126, ok so that is not empty, but is a surplus... how is that?

Another thing that bugged me was, i added up all my macros for the day at the 4 cals per gram of pro/carb and 9 cals per gram of fat and did n't even come close to my documented caloric intake for the day.

DOes, this mea I am somehow eating a ton of empty cals?? Where is the gap here?

because the 9 cals per gram of fat is a rough estimate, not exact

Thanks JC, is it normal for a certain foods pro/carbs/fat not to add up to total calories?

It's been a while since I've done this, but I seem to remember that everything should equate and if not you are eating empty cals, which you want to try and stay away from. Or was that just when looking for a quality protine powder?

    God so much to remember!

Calories are an average, there are actually closer to 4.2 kcal/gram of protein or CHO but it is simplified on labels. As well everything is based on weight, make sure you check that too if you're reading labels. Protein powders you just want to make sure there aren't a lot of fillers, sugars mostly.
