    Replacement for raw oats.

I know alot of people use raw oats in there protein shakes, I do it all the time. I also eat cooked oats all the time but sometimes I switch it over to malt o meal. I was wondering if you could use raw malt o meal in your shakes or does it have to be cooked to get the same nutritional effects.

    what is malt o meal?

Either way, I highly doubt it will have an affect on the nutritional content by not cooking it. Often, a certain amount of different foods' contents are lost due to the heat. Not a lot but some...

Cooking of whole grains allows for the body to absorb nutrients. Not cooking whole grains just allows the body to use it as fiber.

^^^^ not exactly. it will be haed if not impossible to break down the oats into glucose if it is in whole form, that is why most people who understand this and want a less clumpy shake will opt to process the oats in a cofee grinder first so it is just powder and is very easily digested.

Malt o meal is kinda like cream of wheat or grits if not the same thing. Its grains are really fine already. I use a blender to make all make shakes, so that does a pretty good job breaking down the raw oats.

yes it would be fine...although, I don't like grits/malt-o-meal as much because it has a higher GI and doesn't keep me full as long.

I'd also have to disagree with this, the body's stomach acid is stronger than you might imagine and I'm pretty sure will break down raw foods into an easily digestible source of nutrients.. Just like raw vegetables are broken down, it actually takes the body longer and burns more calories in doing so.

Any material to back up this claim, because if this is the case people could eat raw oats all day during contest prep or dieting and stay full and keep losing weight, unfortunently this isn't the case.

Ground up in a coffee grinder or blender will raise the GI slightly from what I understand.
