    Question about water consumption...

I can't tell you that last time I drank water by itself. I drink a lot of milk. Does not drinking water have an impact on someone trying to gain weight? The reason I ask is because I know people drink a lot of water to LOSE weight. Can you clarify this?

Forgot to add, if you're trying to pack on muscle, I assume you're eating a high protein diet. Drink the water to flush your system as it takes a lot more to metabolize protein in comparison to other nutrients.

Water works both ways. If you drink pure bottled water all the time that doesnt have minerals, salts or electrolytes then you can cause a state of water loss. This is because water will leaks out of you blood vessels when its being processes by the kidneys. It actually takes energy for the body to transport the water back into the blood stream. If you have a diffiency of any of the above things then this can cause water loss. On the flip side of that if you have for example exessive sodium intake you will not lose much water at all. There is also another source of water lose that occures in the colon. This is were water is pulled back in from your fecal matter on its way out.

water consumption reccomendations take into account water from all sources, food, milk whatever has water in it. It is not essential to drink water in its pure form if you are meeting your water requirements but i would think it would be healthier to say drink 50% of water intake as water and the rest from food and other drinks ect.

The reason I questioned this is because I read that water consumption makes your body speed up it's metabolism by 30% to flush your system?

i dont think it speeds it up that much, but it defiently slows it down when your dehydrated.
its hard to drink too much.

Try to get 1/2 ounce of water per pound of bodyweight, you'll get the rest in foods.

If you're overly-active and sweat during exercise or workouts drink an extra liter before and during workouts.
