    Back to Basics

I'm competed in my first show too weeks ago. I'm up about 18 lbs and am hoping to put on as much mass as possible over the next four weeks to take advantage of the rebound period after a competition.

My plan is to take in around 5000 calories daily. I'll be working out four days a week, full body workouts focusing on power movements, very high intensity. This is a dramatic shift from the workouts I have been doing.

To meet my dietary needs, my plan is to keep it simple and eat primarily lean ground beef for protein/fat and oats for carbs. To get my 5000 cals, this means eating about 8cups of oats and 3lbs of ground beef a day (21 pounds of beef and 3 large containers of oats weekly). I will also be taking in a PWO shake (vitargo/whey) on lifting days. I will of course be taking a multi-vitamin as well as BCAA's and Creatine.

Now for the diet question. My question is this:

What problems may I run into based on the fact that my diet will have very little fruits and veggies. Or, what benefits would I get by adding say brocolli (sp) into my diet 2x daily?

    DD

wow- not ideal, u really need a VARIETY of proteins.. and beef isnt even a quality protein to begin with... cottage cheese, eggs, even milk and poultry have a better amino profile than BEEF.
i would definetly aim at gettin whole eggs, some sort of casein protein (FROM FOOD), and hell oats really arent much different than wholewheat bread so if u wanna make an egg sandwhich go for it.

definetly get some yogurt in their to suppor good bacteria for proper digestion and maybe some metamucil if u plan on consuming that much fatty mean.

I realize this isn't the optimal diet, but I am still debating giving it a try. It's only going to be for a month. I was considering supplement fiber with something like metamucil. I could substitute some of the lean beef for milk/eggs/yogurt, but dairy always makes me bloat (not a big problem though in the offseason I guess).

Dairy bloats me way more than beef. I was eating lots of red meat the final week before my competition and didn't experience any bloating. A half gallon of milk seems to keep me puffy for days though.

I'm still debating going with the all beef and oats diet for a month but I will probably cut the lean beef down to about 1.5lbs daily and throw in some eggs and a chicken breast here and there.

"It is high in vitamin C and soluble fiber and contains the multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties including diindolylmethane and selenium. The 3,3'-Diindolylmethane found in broccoli is a potent modulator of the innate immune response system with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity."

Yeah, you're probably right. Since when are you giving people advice about taking care of their bodies, lol. I'm probably going to stick with primarily lean beef and oats, but will add in one or two meals with eggwhites, probably in the morning and before bed. I'll also throw in a cup of yogurt in the mornings and sub in rice for oats every now and then.

you need some green beans or something like that to help with digestion and absorption of nutrients from the beef.

i would also add some digestive enzymes to help with the beef.

my diet is very close to that but much less beef for $ reasons. i eat lots of 2% cottage cheese with oats.

do you know your blood type?

i dont drink milk, but i drink chocolate soy milk instead.

Fine, screw you guys. I'll just use a boring old diet with veggies and various sources of protein. I hate you all. I'm still grilling 8 1/2lb burgers for tomorrow and the next day though so ha!

And Tai, I also edited the wikipedia page for "conservative" replacing Regan's picture with one of your own.

Blood type is like AB+ I think. I'm interested in learning more about the blood-type diet thing, but thats for another thread.

i wasnt trying to steer you away. beef is great for growing as long as you eat green veggies and have enough fiber to keep everything moving and not rotting inside you.

i will look and see about your type and see if your are a meat eater or not.

im not but i still eat lots of beef and dont have any problems digesting.

damn bro... watch your cholesterol with all that beef. Im a big fan of red meat myself. I actually did somthing very similar two years ago and got good results. Pretty bland diet, but it was worth it.

I actually only had one complication from it and that was when I had a physical and I told doc about the diet he suggest i get an xray... wasnt really sure until he had the prints and pointed out the huge collection of undigested red meat in my colon...He then got a colonic for me and my god!!!! 11 pounds of poop! I have honestly never felt that good or light in my life!!!

I've toned it down a little and will be eating about 1.5lbs lean beef daily, with the remaining protein coming in the form of chicken, eggs and two shakes daily.
