better to do PWO shake or meal?

I just finished working out and I'm hungry.. the wife is eating dinner now and I was going to eat with her and skip the shake but I thought I should ask first which is better..

is it better to eat the shake and wait on themeal for 45-90 minutes until I can eat the meal without being over-full

    OR

should I just eat the meal with the wife (immediately post workout) and do a shake later.. maybe before bed...

I think it's better to do the shake, then the meal... the fast acting whey and powder carbohydrates work better postworkout, your body doesn't have to digest them to be able to use the nutrients. Also you get a chance for some extra calories.

Shakes before bed aren't the best idea because whey is digested very fast

You don't have to wait 45 minutes to eat dinner though. Just give it a few minutes to digest a little and you should be good to go. If you want a bedtime shake, you need casein.
