    Mixing EVOO with Shakes at night....

    Does anyone mix Olive Oil with their Protein shakes when they want a slower absorbing protein??? I just read something about this on another site and i was just curious if anyone did this and it if works?

    i do it on every shake except for morning 1-3 tbl plus some pb.

    sometimes when i drink some milk i add 1-2 tbl of oil

    I have some natural peanut butter. Sometimes use flax seed oil but I usually have it during the day

    if your hardgainer it can be the best thing to add calories.

    its not going to slow down digestion of a shake.. especially a whey based shake since they are absorbed in two tottally different regions of the body.

    For those interested, here is a brief run down (Tai, please correct me if I'm wrong; by no means am I an expert on any of this):

    Liquid oils slowing down protein absorption in shakes is one of the biggest misconceptions on this board.

    Liquid fats are taken up lymphatically.

    Solid fats require bolus to be transformed into chyme; thus, digestion takes longer, as the solid fat must be broken down into a liquid mass. Flax oil, fish oil, etc. are already liquid.

    aye, a fatty meat like salmon has a slow rate of protein absorbtion.. a shake w/ added oil does not

    so what about natty peanut butter? Is it considered a solid or liquid fat? I always add it to my bedtime shake that consist of cottage cheese and whey, is this natty peanut butter slowing down absorption?

    Cottage cheese is already a slow absorbing casein protein, and yes natty peanut butter is good with cottage cheese before bed. Whey before bed? Whey is absorbed within 45mins. Thats good after a workout but not before bed.

    My question was is the natty peanut butter considered a liquid or solid fat? I know that it is an excellent EFA, but as stated above fish oil and different types of liquid EFA's don't really slow down the absorption rate. I know that Casein has a delayed release and the reason for the whey is to strictly flavor (chocolate whey) my bedtime shake.
