personally, i do drink a protein shake before bed, it called 3 phase protein (wheyprotein, eggprotein and casien).
Casein based shake before bed would be excellent. Whey not good at all.
Whey is a fast acting protein. You want something like casien which is a slower acting protein for when you are fasting at night. You will get a slow steady protein release as opposed to a quick release from the whey. If you can't afford casien you can substitute for non-fat cottage cheese depending on if you are allowing dairy products in your diet.
I would say no, that is on the basis of what opinionsi have gathered from some big boys. I have found myself that it helps little and acts similar to consuming carbs late a night and gets stored as fat
thanks guys!
I dont see the need. Just eat 5-7 regular meals with all the macro's you need for the day. If a shake happens to be that 6th meal of the day so be it. But having a protein shake on top of your daily meals just for the sake of doing it before bed is really just adding extra cals you dont need.
If I am bulking I wll have a shake in the middle of the night but it is all facored into my daily macros. Its whey/casein with hemp oil.
Pasturized eggwhites and BCCAA. I train first thing in the morning 5am. and I can't eat when i first get up so the bed time shake helps with the morning hunger. a middle of the night shake helps as well if i manage to get up
