    BF Testing Types

How do you guys generally get your BF tested?? Yesterday, I got my BF taken for the first time. The trainer inputted some basic info into this hand held device and then asked me to hold it while it "sent an electric pulse through my body and then came up with my BF??? Does this sound like BS?? Anybody familiar with this method? It did conme up with what I had expected my bf to be.

It's a valid method but tends to read high. The absolute best way to get it measured is by submersion.

DEXA>hydrostatic weighing>skin fold (person with at least 100 or more readings)>BIA>BodPod>anthropomorphic measurements.

Wow you put BIA in front of bod pod. I guess I need to stop wasting money on that and just use my walmart scale at home.

yeah bodpod is a f--ing joke, Technically I should say air displacement method. which is what bodpod is. Bodpod is the trade name of the company that makes a lot of them. The exercise organizations got lobbied pretty hard to position ADM higher up on their list of BF methods when they came out with general recommendations. The company that makes it calls it the gold standard for body comp testing.

You will not see to many labs that want accurate and valid measurements for data collection use bodpod, that is of course if they want there studies published in a decent journal.

Hadn't heard of DEXA before. I learn something new on these forums all the time. Thanks, MS.

It is also known as DXA, with both meaning Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry.
