Is it ok to swap brown rice for sweet potato?

Finding it difficult to shovel that stuff down my throat at the moment as it tastes of nothing as is pretty damn dry!!

Any other substitutes you guys can recommend also, other than oats (taking these at breakfast)??

P.s currently dieting til sept to get b/f to at least 10% then going to do a Test E lean bulk

Not rice. Legumes, quinoa possibly if you can find it. Oats would be your best option. Just put them in a blender and drink em, you just gotta man up bro.

Bro, dont get sucked into the montra here at AR that sweet patatos and oats are the only carbs worthy of bodybuilding.

Get yourself a calorie book and a food scale and make sure your are eating your macros in the right proportions.

Whole clean foods that you can eat include fruits, green veggies, grains, rice, etc... Just stay in your macros...

Do you like fruit? Oats are too much volume? A banana has 6.5 carbs per ounce. Eat 1 or 2 bananas and youre easily at 50g carbs. Not to mention all the vit and minerals that come with fruits that rice and oats dont.

Variety and clean foods are the key, bro..Good luck.

Sounds good, I read to many diets and all they go on about are brown rice with most meals. It's no wonder most people give up within a week.
I'm eating plenty of whole foods and try to vary it daily, green veggies are a staple daily food.
Also eating wholewheat bread (2 slices) with sardines or mackeral. Again it makes eating these foods so much easier than on there own

Exactly. Get a basic understanding of foods. Learn about good fats and bad fats, proteins and carbs. People say not to eat fruits due to the sugar, however, does anyone know the GI and GL levels of these foods? Rarely. Many fruits dont cause in insuling spike much more than oats. And if they do, the G.L. is so low that its not a big deal.

Keep working and trying new things out. You can get the basics here but you need to find what works best for you and play with it. Keep an open mind about foods and how they work and youll grow because you know what works for you.

What about adding skimmed milk to my bedtime shake??
I add flaxseed to it at present and water.

I know I should be eating whole foods and not shakes but sometimes you just can't face eating yet another meal, especially while dieting (makes you feel almost guilty!!)

Yeah, you are absolutely right, I forgot all about fruits. I eat low GI fruit when cutting as well.

Hey, youre doing great...remember what I just posted? Milk is the world's number one food source.

Skim milk is fine: 8oz = 12g carbs, 8g pro, 0.6 g fats....add flax or olive oil and enjoy.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've been training for a few years but never with a diet plan. Just the usual eat protein with most meals etc.
I still use shakes for PWO with malodextrin and creatine and at bedtime with flax.
Since I've started to add some structure to my diet I've gained muscle and lost some B/F which most people say is hard to do.
It will take some time to get a full understanding of what and when to eat the right sort of foods but we all gotta start somewhere.

    Age: 32
    Height: 5ft 11"
    Weight: 182lbs (13st)
    B/F: 12-14%

Yes we do! And you came to the right place for diet help. Plenty of knowledge from experienced dudes on this site. Use the search tool, check out threads by some of the more experienced members, and dont be afraid to ask questions. If you post a mock up of a typical day for you along with the macros (pro, carb, fat) in each meal, along with the totals and total calories for the day people will be more than happy to critique and help you get everything straightened out. From the looks of your stats your at a very good starting point, with the right diet and dedication you will be a freak before you know it
