How does this affect my daily coloric intake??

I am curious if performimg cardio im the am on an empty stomach will affect my daily usable calories.....most guys say they dont like to do cardio while bulking as to not take away calories from muscle growth, but, if its on an empty stomach you havent started your daily intake anyhow?? Opinions?

Your activity level factors in to your BMR. They don't like cardio on an empty stomach because not all of the energy that your body taps into is from fat, some will be from muscle.

There's an awesome thread around somewhere where empty stomach cardio was discussed at length. Most of the members posting their opinions at that time are now mods or hall of famers.
I don't remember who posted the link a while back but if anybody knows what I'm talking about bump it up.

Well, that's like asking.... I can't think of an example LOL

But muscle breakdown occurs when your body is in a 'catabolic state'
If your body is in an anabolic state you're synthesizing complex molecules from simple molecules (in other words, building muscle)

These two states cannot occur concurrently.

Forgive me for this ignorant question cause i know the awnser could be found easily, but can your body be in a catabolic state when on moderate doses of aas. I would imagine maybe if you just wake up it may be?
And if so, i would venture to guess it to be better to do a little lite cardio right after a workout...20-30mins and sacrifice the calories. Six or one half a dozen of the other..haha

It absolutely can. And not just when you wake up. If you don't get the proper fuel your body needs before a workout or cardio, or just plain don't eat enough, your body is in a sense 'starving' and will draw upon it's reserves for energy.

Personally I would rather do my cardio in the morning. But I do mine at night because i work second shift. Pretty much like you said. I go 30 minutes on the tread mill at a fast walk but at a high incline after workout. (about 75% MHR)
Just make sure to get your PWO meal in asap afterwards.
I think it was Abbot that was saying that you will actually burn more fat doing your cardio after workout.

You bet man, best of luck, and you're definately right to mix it up and see what gives you the best results, not everybody's the same

I'm still curious if anybody's got that link i was talkin about. I'd like to read that again myself.

Cardio in the am on an empty stomach won't kill your gains.....as long as you keep the intensity low to moderate....say heart rate about 50-60%max rate. Bulking I usually stick to cardio after my workouts or I'll do some easy walking on the treadmill first thing when I wake up...now if I'm dieting than cardio gts more intense and longer bouts.

Makes sence, my days are long enough. I could use to not get up at 530 to do cardio anyhow. I have the time in the eve so maybe thats the go....thanx. Rather get her all in one trip to the gym you know...cheers

Yup, and along those same lines, Nark made a good analogy for the PWO versus AM cardio debate..."Whats better splitting your legs workout into one half-assed session in the AM and one in the PM or one whole-assed session in the PM." Alot of people get too concerned with the amount of calories burned during cardio instead of looking at the big picture, another good analogy, "You dont build muscle while lifting, you build it during recovery. Same goes for cardio, most of the fat you burn isnt burned during cardio, its burned after you've done the cardio" All this being said, I love AM cardio, lol. I do both.
