    Slowing metabolism

I've heard that eating very little slows down your metabolism and helps you gain weight. Is this true? I hate the fact that I have to eat mountains of food just to gain a pound.

Are you trying to just gain weight or add muscle?

If you're aiming to add weight through increased muscle mass, then you need to eat periodically to make sure your muscles have nutrients available all the time, hence eating 6-8 balanced meals per day....

However, if you're just looking for pure poundage, then eat a huge meal loaded with fat and carbs once a day right before bedtime....

And to answer your question finally, eating at regular intervals throughout the day does keep the metabolism burning at an increased rate, so more calories are burned.... Eating once or twice a day will definately cause you to have a slower metabolism throughout the day.... Also, when you do eat, hit up some simple sugars to cause a greater insulin spike... It'll cause increased fat storage, but fat is weight too right?

Well, I heard it is easier to add muscle after "bulking." It seems like I'm struggling to gain and I know I should just eat more, but that is both expensive and time consuming, maybe I just need to get organized.

To answer your question, I would rather gain the muscle than just pure fat, but I'll take anything atm, then work from there.

Not the right way to look at it. If you want muscle, there is no good reason to add fat then work from there.

Your metabolism can be retarded by a sudden drops in caloric intake. When the body senses that its in a negative energy balance it slows itself down to conserve energy. This can be countered to some extent by exercise but only to a point.

Both eating and exercise stimulate the metabolism to speed up.
