    more carbohydrates or more protein?

that's right fellows, what's the appropriate ratio of taking in carbohydrates to protein in a perfect bulking diet?

    a) 70% to 30%

    or

    b) 30% to 70%

And why, give your reasons please.

70% protein is extreme overkill and 70% carbs is the same you need a proper balance of the 3, that being said try things out naturally dont expect to gain more then 3lbs a month max unless you dont care about gaining fat, generally 2lbs of muscle all natty is optimal and the most you should expect but it will read about 3lbs on the scale because of glycogen storage and water retention in the new muscle try different ratios like 40/40/20 or whatever but you asked my reasons, now you have them, good luck

    bump for more questions

thanks mate, 40/40/20 sounds reasonable but what about the 35/45/20 in your initial response ??

Try to manipulate your carbs intake to see how your body reacts.
protien should be around 1.5g/lb of body weight if your not using AAS up to 2.5g/lb if using AAS.
    For carbs;
I'd do 2g/lb of body weight up to 3 g/lb increased graduallydepending of how active is your life style, cardio per week,..etc

i weigh about 220 Ibs right now; so in you estimate what ratio is perfect for me to bulk. have been off cycle for the last 4 months.

40/40/20 is a classic and works well. But my whole idea is to increase your carbs intake slowly starting with 2g/lb of body weight UNLESS your above that already.
Now for leaner gains try 55/35/15 which works great when on cycle.

my whole idea is not to jump into a complete new diet, just switch it gradually, specifically Carbs intake.

like smoke said it depends a lot on your activity. like i play soccer so i run my ass off daily, and eat a ton of carbs with no problem. but the more sedentary your lifestyle, the less you should get

personally, i think any diet with protein over 50 is a little extreme but it might work for some people. i would go 45-35-20 c/p/f

Hoping not to jack the thread and stay on topic here. In my notes I dont have the math to determine how many of my cals are from carb/pro /fat. I think it was in the vids I watched but I didnt write it down as the instructor downplayed cal counting so I dismissed it.
My diet is totalling per day .
    CAL 2808 PRO 283 g CARB 217 G FAT 84 g
Can you tell me how to calc where the calories are from to determine my %. I think carbs and pro are a factor of four but I can not recall fat but by elimination it should be about .
    283g pro =1132 cal
    217 g carb= 868
totals 2000 leaving about 808 cal for the 84 g of fat?
    then that would be
pro 40% carb 31% fat 28%...if thats correct it would seem fats too high?
    Thanks

id said that because thats what i use but 40/40/20 is like baseline and then you tweak from there

    ^^^agreed!

to sonysucks, 1 gram of protein and carbs is each = to 4 calories and 1 gram of fat is = to 9 calories... These are the standards, but don't expect the numbers of grams per macro to come out equalling the total number of calories per serving.
