    Deer Meat

Do alot of you guys replace deer meat in your diets for other sources of red meat? I hear its one of the most leanest red meats?

I eat it when I can but it can't be bought in stores around here. I also don't hunt so I usually have to buy some from friends that got more than their deep freeze can handle.

I just got a bunch of venison jerky, steaks, ground and tenderloin. On average, venison has 130 calories, 26 grams protein and 2 grams of fat per 3 ounces.

Most of the time I can get it for free from friends but I usually throw them some money or pick up a bar tab or two. No big deal as they took work off, drove north and bought all the equipment to hunt in the first place.

Venison is delicious. I love making venison chili on a cold day like today.

Sprinkle roast with salt and pepper then dust with flour.

I haven't bought venison jerky online before but we have a few jerky outlets by me that sell it. They also have buffalo jerky, chicken, turkey and beef.

I've never ate gator. I heard it tastes like chewy overcooked chicken so it doesn't sound appealing to me! Plus, we don't exactly have gators in Michigan!

blackened gator is amazing, you just have to know how to cook it, i used to live in deep louisiana and during gator and crawfish season we would have cookouts with all types of foods you don't get anywhere else, making my mouth water now

Hehe this aligator we just killed sucked. It taste like chewy, greasy, overdone, under cooked country fried steak all in one. It is not my taste of meat either. Thats why I will be selling it next season. HEHE

It could be better I duno. I guess it was just the way it was prepared?

heck yeah, we used to have cookouts with 30-40 people, 400+lbs of crawfish, aligator, and several hogs and pigs that were pit roasted starting the night before

i had a little incident at one of those, i was like 10-12 and thought that these little jello things tasted really good, so i have 15 or so, turns out they were everclear jello shots, i was wasted as hell

I've been substituing elk meat a lot lately... I freakin love the stuff! I killed my first one with my bow back in August and got a little over 180lbs. of meat from her and I still have another tag that goes until the end of this month, so I've got one more to go and should have close to 400lbs. of awesome tasting meat to last me until next hunting season!

Yeah I love the stuff! There's only 1 other game meat that is better and that's caribou... I killed one when I was working in Alaska for a summer and it was excellent... Of course it was only 2-3 weeks old, so it was tender too! Had no freezer, so it would've been wasteful to shoot an adult... Elk is much better than deer, but caribou tops them all imo...
