$$$ on Food?
How much $$$ do you normally spend on foods? My intention is to have a healthy diet with minimum expenses. Economy is horrible.
For me.
----
Whole Milk: $2.49 / 4 cups ($80.00 / month)
Meal in Dining Hall: $7.49 ( $230.00 / month)
Quater Oats / Peanut Butter / Olive Oil: $50.00 / month
Whey Proteins: $80.00 / month
Misc: $50.00 / month
---
Approximate $500.00

i buy round cut steak ($3/lb) boneless chicken breast ($2.50/lb) oats are cheap, sweet potatoes/potatoes are only a couple $$ a pound, usually add some romaine lettuce which is like $1.50 a pound or so.
its def cheaper to cook yourself. at my school a meal in the dining hall would run me $10 easily and much less healthy than what i can make.
also $80 on protein is a lot. thats 10lbs of ON in a month, which is 160 scoops. so i'm thinking you're taking waaaay too much whey (like the rhyme?)

Took a little time and figured out my diet (bulking). My pricing is based on my serving size that I USE and not what the nutrition label says.
This breaks down to about:
4,200 Calories
120 Fat
415 Carbs
320 Protein
Meal 1)
.80 eggs
.25 banana
.15 Oats
.60 Prot
= $1.80
Meal 2)
.38 rice
1.00 ground beef
= $1.38
Meal 3)
1.80 Chicken
.85 broccoli
= $2.65
Meal 4) PWO
1.20 prot
.90 waxy M
= $2.10
Meal 5)
1.80 chicken
.38 Rice
= $2.18
Meal 6)
.50 pasta
1.00 ground beef
.50 sauce
= $2.00
Meal 7)
1.25 Cottage C
TOTAL $ 13.36

I just added up the costs of my diet per day (AUD $40/day). I nearly fell off my chair. I looked for cheaper meat in the supermarket (of comparable quality). All I can do get the stuff that is on special. It usually expires in the same week that you buy it so just freeze the meat or cook it immediately.

I'm pretty sure he's a software producer. He definitely doesn't eat at the good-ole' residence meal hall anymore. lol.
To the original poster, just pre-package your own meals. If the economic crisis is harming your ability to spend, then just buy in bulk, and then freeze the majority of it. (i.e. cook up lots of chicken breast, at the beginning of each week, and use it for 1 - 2 meals a day.)
Once you have a complete grasp on nutrition you will be able to create a more cost effective diet. Some of the biggest guys on this site probably only spend $15 a day on food, because they know what nutrients they need from the particular food groups, and spend accordingly.
Anyways, moral of the story, stop eating at the food-hall, and start cooking yourself!!!

just did some quick math (i suck at math). I spend about $400-500/mth on food. You can get a shtload of good food for that price if you know where/how to shop.
