dextrose as a high GI food for PWO

Has anyone heard of using dextrose (NOW foods) in your PWO shake for fast acting carbs? I read dextrose is possibly the simplest form of carbs and will make your pancreas release more insulin for faster delivery to muscles. sound right?

It is the simplest and preferred form so it will create insulin response. You are correct.

however the natural insulin response isn't going to make much of an impact, if any, unless you are using slin exogenously i wouldn't use high GI carbs like dextrose. just eat.

people have said no but no one has said why. it's hard to know what to do when some people say to eat one way and other people say to do the opposite. I'm not trying to make a big deal but actually trying to learn what to do and why i'm supposed to do it that way.

i'll quote that since you missed it. it addresses your reasoning in your first post.

second, I see no added benefit to eating dextrose and other simple sugars ever, let along PWO. the "shuttling" effect is extremely minimal if existent at all; but some do use it when bulking and have success. so do be honest, do what you want, my advice will tell you not to.

6oz chicken, 80 grams of oats, and 6 tsp of peanut butter is my pwo meal....the days of high GI carbs pwo are over. Just get in a balanced meal of nutrients. The logic of spiking insilun to restore depleted glycogen is crap, your body is always trying to restore glycogen this doesnt just happen post workout.....a combo of good meals after your workout will get the job done. Yes this topic should be a sticky.....??why hasn't it been yet? lol

i've had some lengthy responses to this questions before, i wish i could easily dig them up.

but u bring up another point, glycogen takes over 24 hours to even come close to being fully restored, so do it smart with healthy, low GI and complex carbs.
