    sugar alcohols

whats your take on it?? i did some research and alot of people say not to worry about it but some say its not good for the body, considering its mainly in sugar free foods. From what i understand, the body doesnt know how to process it, along the lines of malitol i suppose, excess amounts give u diarrhea.

Sugar alcohols have relatively the same sweetness as standard sucrose (.9). Sugar alcohols are a form of sugar that are poorly processed by the digestive tract which means it won't absorb as fast as glucose or at all if in larger quantities which gives the well known diarrhea effect. They also contribute less calories per gram (2.6 kcal/g vs 4.0 kcal/g). Nutritional labels tend to mark these as negligable calories which is true in some instances but not always.

Might as well finish answering your question. There is no health issues linked w/ taking sugar alcohols. Those people are probably the same retards who say aspartame is bad for you even though 200 studies have been done saying it won't harm you. The only side effect linked to sugar alcohols since it is that it is poorly assimilated and if taken in excess (50+ grams) then it will cause diarrhea and have a laxative effect.
