    Protein powder vs. Egg whites

    The 10-4 is that I'm dieting and Protein Powder is much cheaper for me as opposed to egg whites so I'm already biased...

    Anyways - Before anyone has a chance to say it - I'll write it for the parrots.

    "REAL FOOD IS BETTER THAN SHAKES"

    Alright - So comparing protein powder vs egg whites -

    Why would one choose real food (egg whites) over the protein powder?

    I'm assuming that some are going to say mechanical/chemical digestion from the egg whites gives it the additional benefit from calories being burned...as opposed to readily being absorbed like powder...but seeing that egg whites are so light and practically dissolve while chewing - I'm sure that this reason is negligible.

    The bio-availability of protein vs. egg whites? Cooking egg-whites denatures a portion of the protein, especially when microwaving..... vs. a stable protein from the powder.

    So what is it? Why is "real" food better than shakes in this case?


    Anyone with insight?

    Oh, and I don't care about the 100% protein/Zero fat/zero carbs from the egg whites vs. the negligible amounts of fats/carbs in protein powder.... I'm talking about strict benefits from the protein itself

    I just wrote an e-mail to one of my Biochemistry Professors regarding protein strand denaturation in eggs... I'll post the reply when I hear back.

    That would be a very interesting read. I've always been taught real food over protein powder (egg whites over whey) unless PWO, so I'd love some more insight on it.

    Yeah, that's what you always read on the forum, (real food over shakes", but as far as I know if you drink egg whites they're similarly digested/absorbed as whey protein, so I'm also interested in reading the response rob gets.

    its funny.. I got my leanest on shakes only and largest on most meals comprising of shakes.. but these "gurus" on the boards are nothing but parrots and have a one way mindset unfortunately.. take the boards for what they are..
