    PWO discussion

What works for you when it comes to post workout nutrition?

Do you do the standard protocol of consuming high GI carbs along with fast digesting protein immediately after, and then waiting an hour to consume low GI carbs and slower digesting proteins?

Or do you prefer to skip the high GI carbs all together and just consume sweet potatoes/oats/rice/etc and chicken/egg whites/etc immediately after exercise?

For years I was an advocate of the first protocol however now I usually blend oats, a banana, pasturized egg whites, and whey post workout and drink that. Then a couple of hours later I will usually have a pro/fat meal and go to bed. This method seems to help keep my leaner but now I am seconding guessing myself.

Am I robbing my body of anabolism by not consuming high GI carbs PWO and not consuming carbs PPWO?

    What method do you employ?

First off i don't think you are robbing your body as the benefits of the insulin spike from high GI carbs is vastly overrated IMO

i prefer whey/waxy maize immediately after workout and then a lean meat/low GI carb an hour later

i agree, too high GI carb will be great at restoring liver glycogen but not muscle glyocgen

I pretty much have my pro shake straight after i finish training.
It would consist of some whey pro and some carbs of like oats or something of that kind.
then an hour of that i will have my meal or 1 1/2 hour later.
I dont have hi gi straight after training even though it does work and get absorbed quickly i always have believed if i have more of a complex carb source, it will last a lot longer in my body, then i have energy for much longer also not so hungry so quick.

specially good for me when im dieting and since i try maintain and stay lean all year around.
    it works well for me

So you don't believe the insulin spike is beneficial? I thought that was the whole point of using exogenous insulin supplementation PWO....

i don't believe the insulin spike from using high GI carbs is very beneficial compared to the amount of carbs you have to eat to get it, but using exogenous insulin is a completely different story, comparing exogenous insulin to a natural insulin spike is like comparing a test cycle to the test spike you get from exercise

I see. So your thoughts are that a natural insulin spike PWO through high GI carb ingestion is over rated for increased anabolism? Have you read any literation on which you based your opinion or is this something that has just worked better for you personally?
