    Opinions on flavored oatmeal packets

So what are your guys opinions on flavored oatmeal packets? Specifically Quaker oats WEIGHT CONTROL type, they come in 3 flavors: cinnamon, brown sugar, and banana bread. Don't confuse these with the typical flavored ones with tons of sugar added.

    Nutrition fact comparison:
Quaker Oats Weight Control packets; Calories 160 (1 packet, 45g), Total Fat 3g (Sat 0.5g, Poly 1g, Mono 1g), Carb 29g (Dietary Fiber 6g, Soluble Fiber 4g, Sugars 1g), Protein 7g

Quaker Oats 100% Natural Steel Cut Oats; Calories 150 (1/4 Cup, 40g), Total Fat 2.5g (Sat 0.5g, Poly 1g, Mono 1g), Carb 27g (Dietary Fiber 4g, Sugars 1g), Protein 5g

From my comparison of the two, the hard numbers of the Weight Control variety are actually better.

But, upon investigating the ingredients of the weight control which I will list in order as appears on the label (whole grain rolled oats, protein isolate, maltodextrin, natural and artificial flavors, oat flour, salt, calcium carbonate, guar gum, carmel color, soy lecithin, acesulfame, potassium, sucralose, niacinamide, vitamin A palmitate reduced iron, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, thiamin mononitrate, folic acid) wow, what a mouth full. There are some ingredients that I don't like as well as the fact that it's not 100% natural (I TRY to only consume all natural foods).

Anyhow, the Weight Control type taste sooo good and it is a highlight to my diet, I love how it tastes and look forward to eating it.

Is consuming the Weight Control type over the 100% natural type going to slow or hinder any of my muscle gains or fat loss to the point where it's noticeable?

the macros arent what matters its the GI, and quick has a little higher than naturally rolled, which is a little higher than steel cut

Oat avinin protein is so close to the gluten/gliadin protein. I would only eat steel cut, if any at all.

Since I only eat a cup of oatmeal at a time a little splenda works fine for me.

8 egg whites or so in a fine batter mixed (youll have to forumulate this yourself)

spray pan and throw pancakes on. so simple... so damn good with sugar free syrup.

    To the original poster:

I wouldn't be that concerned bro. The GI of Weight Control oats would only be slightly higher than the steel cut oats, if any difference at all since the Weight Control has 2 more grams of fiber and protein per serving. It also appears that the Weight Control is fortified with some b vitamins and minerals. Doesn't sound too shabby to me at all actually.

Thanks for the info (and for getting the thread back on track). "Oatmeal packets"... "not oatmeal pancakes" but ya the pancakes are good guys

i'm going to have to try some of those pancakes.

Would have done it now, but I just downed cup 1/2 of Cottage cheese with splenda and sugar free jelly. Who said eating healthy doesn't taste good??!??

unless ur competing, the difference that the weight control oatmeal (Which I LOVE) will not make that big of a difference compared to regular oats.
