Money is Tight.... What to spend it on?

Hey Guys! I know most of us are going threw some tough times and the cost of food seems to go up almost daily.

Somethings will have to be sacrificed in my daily diet for simple cost reasons.
    My ?

Which of these is more cost effective: Eggbeater egg whites 16 oz at about 2.39 a carton verses say 5lbs casin protein at around $45

Been mixing the casin with the eggwhites first thing in morning and right before bedtime. One of these will need to go. Eggwhites give me almost 50 grams of good slow release protein, the casin is 24 grams.

Thanks for any input. Got to pinch pennys these days!

I get 5 dozen large eggs for $5 at wal-mart. I just hard boil them personally and you can choose to eat the yolk or not. Their store brand tuna is 67 cents a can as well, awesome deal. So spend a little over 20 bucks and you've got 20 cans of tuna and 120 eggs.

edit: I read that whole thing totally wrong. You could try going with the boiled eggs over egg beaters though to save a little.

Not sure, don't use either . I would break down per meal cost . The eggbeaters do sound good tho .
What ever happened to the rocky breakfast ? The gym shorts on the outside of sweatpants ? Eye of the tiger !

i'd always go with real food over supps, you can cook the eggs, use them to make shakes or just down them, so they have more uses than the powder which you just drink

i would agree with ETR, wait for london broil or sirloin to go on sale, then buy it and freeze

go to your local farmer's market if you have one and ask if someone sells egg whites, sometimes they use the egg yolk to make a feed and sell the egg whites REALLY REALLY cheap

Thanks guys! Should have added that my 8:30 meal after I get home from the gym is London Broil w/sweet potato. I drink a protein shake in the parking lot of the gym ( ON Pro Complex with water) I dont think I want to give that one up. Sounds like I just need to drop the casin a nite and in the mornings and stay with the eggwhites. For some strange reason, I love eggbeaters! Also found them at Walmarts in the 32 OZ carton @ $3.27 I can split that into easy!

Around here, Wednesday is reduced meat day at Food Lion. I try and stock up then!

Like others have said, just stock up on the good proteins when on sale.

Also, instead of pro-complex you could use a regular whey concentrate, alot cheaper. Instead of egg whites in morning, you could drink a shake. Also oatmeal is super cheap.

i dont know about using whey concentrate, especially on a cut, two much margin for shvt to be thrown in there
