    Unhappy veggie

    Hi guys,
I was recently "forced" into vegetarianism after a really bad case of hellicobactor pylori from some poorly handled chicken.
I havent been able to touch meat since...
my main protein sources now ( i was enjoying all of the following foods before food poisioning ) are... eggs, fish, soy beans, nuts, beans & pulses and of course protien shakes ( which arent' going down that well either ).
I havent had any strength loss of late & i am trying to lean up at the moment so not too fussed about gaining mass ....but i was just wondering how long do you think i could keep going without meat as a source before i hit a point where i just wont be getting enough nutrients to either gain more muscle or maintain what i do have ???
I know all of the food stuffs i have listed are of varying quality and contain very different percentages of protein per gram and most people probally already enjoy them as part of a varied diet...but can you really build a "decent" body without meat ???
(by decent i mean 10% bf and weighing in at 15 stone for example )
    any help greatly recieved
    thanks

I'm sorry to hear about that food poisoning bud..
But to tell you something every body here eats fish i'm not a diet guru but I don't see why you wouldn't reach your goals with fish as a main meat..
Interesting question tho I will follow this post..
And yeah maybe eat some Tofu it's really good

You can get all the same nutrients on a vegatarian diet, it just takes a lot more work.

^^^^ That's the truth. Hardest part I always think that vegetarians have is getting enough protein (can be tough to get 300g of protein a day). Also, getting sufficient and the right distributions of fats can be tough.

I met a guy once at a show that is a vegetarian body builder and he has a blog, may contain useful info for ya. I know he has a diet section there. Look him up on Google named Steve Holt (not sure if i can post a link to his site here so I won't). He was in his 50’s and he looked a whole lot better than me.

what really pi***s me off tho is that some dirty scumbag couldnt be arsed to wash his hands properly before touching my chicken!!!
im a chef and i wash my hands religously all day every day...some people just dont care...because of some un-hygeneic joker it landed me in hospital put my training back months and messed up my diet

It is possible to get your protein being vegetarian, however it's much harder to get COMPLETE proteins.

There are food combos like brown rice + black beans, or quinoa + black beans that will yield complete proteins when consumed together. However, the amount of protein you get from eating these foods would require very large volumes for your goals as BBer, or to build muscle.

I would suggest just buying hormone free chicken to start with, spice it up and find some good recipes... SLOWLY start incorporating that back into your diet. As your stomach adjusts to the chicken you can begin to eat more and more.

As much as I hate to say this, drinking dairy before eating the chicken will help your stomach adjust. GL man.
