calculating my daily caloric burning amount

    hey

I'm trying to figure out how many calories my body would burn each day WITHOUT EXERCISING OR DOING ANYTHING.

Would this mean I would be looking to find my Basal metabolic rate (BMR)?

I want to figure this out so I can calculate how many calories I should be eating, versus burning. I figure that this way I would know an estimate of how many calories I would be deficiting granted I record what I eat

I am 25yrs old, 260lbs, 6ft tall, male. I'm mostly fat. I'm trying to lose weight and get toned...

Yes, you'd be looking to find your BMR. There are many online calculators for this. Once you know your BMR, you need to find out the even more important number which is your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) - there are also online calcs for this, or you can try plugging values into the formulas yourself. Google the Katch-McArdle Formula, or the Harris Benedict. Note that the former requires you to know your weight in lean mass and your BF% - it is more accurate because of this.

Your TDEE is your maintenance number - so essentially if yours is 2500 calories a day and that's what you eat every day, you should stay the same. To lose weight, you create a deficit via calorie reduction and cardio. However, you need to be concerned with the QUALITY of weight loss (i.e. fat vs. muscle) - don't make the mistake I did and starve yourself, or you'll wind up looking like a skinny-fat like me.

    Good luck, keep us posted!
