10 reasons I hate low carb diets!!

#1- I work out too ****ing hard to only have 80 grams/day of carbs

#2- I like being able to function day to day and be competent at work

#3- I like being able to still train heavy on a diet

#4- if you diet right there is no need for carb re-feed days, you can keep everything smooth and steady all the way to single digit bf%

#5- I think the theory that you can go 5-6 days straight low carb and retain muscle over a period of 12-15 wks is bullshit, and even at 2-3 days straight carb depleted the muscle(again and again over x number of wks) doesn't get the nutrients and glycogen it needs, your ****ed either way

#6- I think most peoples bodies utilize carbs better than loading with a bunch of oil and peanut butter each day

#7- I dont believe that after 12-15 wks on very little carbs your going to "fill back out" in 5 days, you lost muscle, fill back out what? your still going to look like a stick

#8- If I can limit my shitty moods to 3-4 wks towards end of diet all the better

#9- I dont believe you need 2-3 grams/lb of bodyweight of protien to hold muscle in any event, and too much protein actually bloats your digestional tract. I could take 80% of competitors on 1 gram/lb of bodyweight protein and make them look better than the carb depleted guy on 500 grams/day protein

#10- carb deprivation makes overtraining even easier, when its easier to be in a state of overtraining anyways during dieting itself.

Are some people carb sensitive and need LOWER carb diets than others? Sure, is it 80-90% of everybody trying to get lean? Nope

Am sure alot of people share your opinion on no carb diets.

But i would never cut without dropping the carbs, am a really easy gainer and wich also includes fat so am having a really hard time cutting without dropping carbs to a minimum.

And i feel great and full of energy after 1,5-2 weeks, the first week i share your opinion also when it comes to no energy, bad mood and its a living hell to lift heavy....

I'm currently running a CKD and will be done with it 3 weeks from now. I'm not gonna lie, it isn't easy. I miss my oats, and the clean eating I was doing while running a 40/40/20. However, the 40/40/20 wasn't doing much for me in terms of cutting. Sure, I could have had it figured incorrectly, but I did spend 2 months on this board tweaking over and over - it seemed like a very good diet.

In any event, I start a very clean/lean bulk in a few weeks and intend on trying that at the 40/40/20 split - I have a feeling that split will work much better for gaining rather than losing. We'll see!

    To each his own.

I agree with every point. Actually if somebody asked me to make a post about why I dislike low carb diets I would have said the exact same thing.

I've tried the low carb approach before, it just SUCKS for me. Sure you lose weight, but you feel flat as hell, probably lose more muscle then a normal carb diet, and feel like sh1t as well as hungry all the time, plus training becomes very hard and your motivation goes down the drain.

^Agreed (except I fvkcing love re-feed days, except for the fact that I feel lethargic on those days.

My experience with CKD is that I actually felt a ton better without the carbs (or at least only have carbs pwo).

Yah, I felt moody and irritable for the first few days, but once I got into ketosis, I had much, much more energy than with carbs all day.

And I personally never lost much muscle on a CKD.

Strength did drop a little bit, but nothing excessive.

my friend. unless you are training for a show or shoot you would NEVER have to limit your body to such low carbs. i do not care what some of these "experts" say - there is no need for that. im not sure if thats you in your avatar but your looking great and i am sure you have enough dedication to eat clean and know what i mean when i say you can up your carbs and stay lean......... i agree with your reasons. some ppl like to take things over board. i used to be like that. but you need to function for your job, be in a good mood for your family, etc.... always in moderation . trust me i learned it the hard way. bol bro

Even then a decent size guy can still get away with 200-300 grams per day right up until the week before a show.

I wasn't talking about 2-300 grams, I'm talking about retarded low amounts like less than 100 grams/day

How do you compensate with using carbs and trying to lose bodyfat. A higer cardio approach?

Higher cardio and lower fat intake. It seems everyone takes in close the same amount of protein. All thats left is to figure out how we want to divide up the fat and carb calories after that. I feel better with carbs and I think it is also healthier to have them in your diet as well. The most important factor is choosing your carb source wisely. It still comes down to insulin management. I was just mapping out my precontest diet I will be starting next week and its set at 325P 275C and 50F.

Emphasis on low GI foods? Or foods with a low glycemetric load?

If thats the case, do you have fruit at all in a pre-contest diet mate?

This might be my last week of low carbs. So I should be able to give good feedback to what my body likes better soon

Usually 50-60 grams of low GI carbs per meal. Sweet Potatoes and Oats make up the vast majority of my carbs. Zero fruit precontest.

I understand Keto does work for some people but I dont think in the long run it's a healthy way to do things. I feel if people just learned to eat correctly in the first place they wouldnt have to do keto. When I see what's on the menu of a typical keto dieter it gives me a stomach ache. I talked about this in another thread. It seems to really appeal to overweight people. You get the dramatic weight loss when you start (water and glycogen depletion related) then you get to binge on the weekends. I know I am over simplefying this but just not a fan.

Honestly i think it just comes down to personal preference. theres always going to be people opposing one view, especially when there isn''t one definite correct way to dieting

I have found white potatos and rice works better for me than brown rice and yams, my muscles seem to uptake the carbs better and I think I'm a bit on the hypoglycemic side anyways which makes them work even better. I still include PWO recovery carbs with some sort of simple sugars, might be as low as 30-40 grams but still some sort of fast acting carbs. If my caloric intake is like 2700 cals/day but I can still include some things such as the PWO carbs and moderate carbs throughout day for recovery and muscle volume, I look much better than loading up on a bunch of protein and dropping carbs down insanely low. I just wish it didn't take me almost 14 yrs to learn all this shit, I should have listened to my body from the start!!

I limit fruit to banana once in awhile in place of a reg carb meal of rice or oats (usually if I'm in a jam and pressed for time) occasionally a grapefruit w/ splenda too. Yes, all the way to contest time. Alot of black guys diet like this, Lee Haney was one of them. Lee ate pineapple at night and still came in shredded, Kai Greene I believe is another one who diets like this
