Eggs and oats vs casein and oats for breakfast

I'm able to get casein for much cheaper than I could ever get egg whites. So to save money and about 20 minutes of time, could I just have a oat/casein shake for breakfast? (I would still eat egg whites at night)

Or do I really need oats n eggs?

You could do the casein for breakfast. Just make sure that you are getting a real food protein source in an hour later or so.

Well...I actually work out 30 min after breakfast, then I have 22gwhey and 20gcasein PWO. But after that (in terms of protein) it's chicken, beef, tuna or salmon, almond butter, egg whites, then more casein before bed. Good plan?

Hmm... for starters you should try and eat a least an hour before your workout. 30 mins isn't enough time for your body to process the food and make good use of the carbs to fuel your workout.

The only problem I have with your plan is that we're now talking hours of time gone by where you haven't had real food yet. I think you should really try and at least get some eggs in for breakfast in addition to the casein and oats. Not even whites necessarily, just a few eggs. I do the same breakfast every day 1 hour before workout - 30g blended protein shake, 3 whole eggs, and 1 cup of oats.

Well shoot...when do you people work out? I had already planned on getting up at 6 for a half hour run, eating and showering, then going to the gym, then getting to work at 9:30.

It's pretty hard for me to go to a gym after working all day.

I am in the gym 5:30am M-F. I workout and do cardio immediately after. So yes, i'm up cooking eggs and eating my first meal at 4:30am. I've gotten used to it. I realize not everybody has the same schedule as me.

All I can suggest is work it out the best you can where you're eating as close to an hour before your workout as possible. If it can only be a half-hour, so be it; it's better than not eating at all.

The protein in the eggs will be absorbed quicker than the casein. Real food is always better than a shake. If you are going to take a shake in the morning, I'd recommend a whey shake because if you just woke up then chances are you haven't eaten in the past 8 hours. I always slam some whey as soon as I wake up even if I'm going to cook breakfast in a little just to be sure my body has some protein available.

Also if you got oats in there you might as well throw some peanut butter in there, it's a good source of healthy fats and the incomplete proteins in the oats and PB will compliment each other.

Are you sure that PB and oats both contain the missing amino's from the other? I know this to be true with PB and wheat for instance, not certain about oats.

Yes it's just "grains" in general including rice, wheat, corn, etc.
