    Shakes, Food, Macro Log

The past couple years I have always has some whey prior to my workouts, because I'm sure we've all read before how it is good to have the amino acids available during training; however, the more I learn about diet and the better mine gets I will come across a question I need help with, I have 2:

    1) If I am eating a sh^t-ton of food all day, all diff types being absorbed at diff rates, is it really necessary for me to have this pre-workout shake or are the proteins from the food enough? I usually consume about 400g of protein a day from a variety of sources (dairy/beef/chicken/turkey/fish)

    2) When I am logging my macros for the day as of late I have been excluding the protein from the shakes I take. Typically I have one as soon as I wake up and 1 pre-workout and 1 PWO. Also a casein prior to bed. I know it doesn't compare to food, but I used to log it in as protein intake. I've always felt it's f^cking BS though. My question is, Is it good practice to exclude the protein from shakes in my log or should I be including them?

It's not like i'm trying to lose weight and I'm cheating a few hundred calories. If anything I'd prefer a surplus of protein. I feel like I'm shortchanging my self by including protein shakes as a qualitative source of protein.

I'd appreciate more input preferably from one of the hot vets/mods

Protein shakes count - your body is still absorbing the nutrition within the shakes - however, with whey shakes - at a much faster rate and a meal should be ate within an hour after consuming.

There are many mixed reviews on when to eat - but I remember reading upon Pendulum & Bino's conversations that people should consume a whey shake immeadiate post-workout (in the gym) and eat as soon as you get home (however, I didn't see any comments on any carbs included in that shake - so maybe you just want the amino acids).

^I followed this and have an amino acid/bcaa concoction in the gym and I gt home about 30-40 after workout so I eat chicken & white rice (for fast absorption) - I feel much better than when I was consuming a whey shake & waximaize when I got home.

Whey shakes throughout the day are pointless, unless you're in a tight situation - then I would do whey/casein/oats so you have about 1.5-2 hours until your next meal.

All foods you put in your body count - sometimes I worry about eating boogers ... jk but shakes do count - they're just not a good source - eat 1 hour pre-workout and that shake will not be needed.
