No offense but it sounds like you have a bit to learn about diet bud. Pasta is fast. Even whole wheat pasta is still not ideal.
Go for minimally processed sources like oats, sweet potato, beans, lentils, and whole grain rice for pre-workout and really, in general. The only time simple/fast carbs are truly justifiable is post-workout but a bagel (90+ on GI index) with PB is stupid. There's no protein there. Also, combining fat with an insulin spike of that nature isn't the best idea, even PWO. A better option would be a shake with vitargo, maxy maize, or something like that, directly PWO and then back to lean protein, slow carb meals following that for the rest of the day. Also, if you're cutting, there should be no "fast" carbs eaten at all really.

Pre-workout is kind of a no brainer IMO - lean protein source and good complex carb. PWO is another story as people have their own ideas of what they should be doing, and that's all based on their goals (cutting, bulking, etc). I like complex carbs across the board personally.

a bagel with peanut butter DOES have protein. 10 or 15 grams depending on how much pb is used. add a glass of low-fat milk and that's not a horrible pre-workout meal. i usually eat chicken with brown rice and broccoli. or sometimes i'll go with a protein shake w/ steel-cut oats and a banana. i personally feel that it's good to have both slow/fast acting carbs pre and post-workout.

my preworkout meal is about an hour to an hour and half before workout

    its...
8oz lean beef (good for sustained released protein into your workout plus creatine)

1/2 an apple (good quick but low GI carbs for energy)

cup of spinach (natures nitric oxide booster)

cup of oats (low GI slow releasing carbs for sustained energy into the workout)

plus 2g fish oil and vit c

but the peanut butter isnt a complete protein. so its almost worthless if used before a workout. only good thing i can see is the high fat would slow down your release of the simple carbs from the bagel

better would be real food. eggs and cottage cheese. or milk and a scoop of whey. with oats. maybe a lil apple juice or a banana if your bulking.

Yeah, some brands available in the organic aisle and health food store are quite good but the average wheat variety by Barilla or something is pretty poor.
