Do you guys measure the food raw or once its boiled and cooked?
I measure everything raw. Most of the nutr info is based on the raw product.
Usually the product will say if the Nutrition Facts are for cooked or uncooked. If you need to weigh meat do it before cooking, but if you need to measure rice it is done after cooking. Maybe you could list what you had in mind and someone will chime in how to measure it.
This is always a hassle for me - I cook in bulk like I imagine most people here do, so measuring meats prior to cooking is tough.
I've found that for every 4oz of raw meat, it looses about .5oz after being cooked. So I apply the same nutritional values to 4oz raw / 3.5oz cooked. It's by no means a science and obviously varies from meat to meat, but I need to keep my sanity, and at the end of the day a few oz of meat over/under isn't going to make or break anybody's diet.
Everything else is a cake walk.
Well, i was going to ask about the basic food:
* rice
* frozen chicken breast
* beans
* lentils
* quinoa
Umm, 100g raw rice == like 3x the size cooked, got me bloated for the whole day(including prior meals) lol
yeah I would definately read the label lol. Both brands of bulk rice I have say the same thing on the nutr panel: Serving Size: 1/4 cup dry, 3/4 cup cooked.
I usually just run off the labels, even on the chicken I buy. I cook them in water so I wouldnt think they would lose too much. I may weigh some before and after to see how much it varies as gbrice mentioned
Exactly. You can't get TOO obsessive since the numbers that your diet is based off of (BMR, TDEE, etc) are estimates.Quote:
