Foods which promote alertness and energy in the morning

I am one of those non-morning people that requires caffeine to even function. I was wondering if there are any foods I should consume in the morning which may help to raise my energy levels too.

I have no problem with energy and focus during the day once I get going. It's just the mornings that are brutal.

I would recommend eating 1 banan + 1/2 cup of oats. A combination of both high and low GI foods is what you need early in the morning.

x3 - can't go wrong with some fast carbs for the quick boost, and slow burning energy to sustain it.

I drink 16 oz straight black coffee and do my fasted morning cardio. Coffee helps me a bit but I get a ton of energy from my morning cardio. Maybe you should try doing your cardio first thing in the morning and get some blood pumping. I feel great for the rest of the day, the morning cardio pretty much sets me up for the rest of the day. For me, certain foods never really "WOKE" me no matter what I ate, but that cardio definitely gets me going.

I chug 16oz of water first thing upon waking, at least 30 minutes before I consume anything else. It promotes metabolic increase equal to fasted cardio. I would agree with Cal on the, do cardio to kick start the day, if you don't want to drive to the gym, buy a jumprope, do one minute on one minute off "rounds" for five rounds, nine minutes total and you will definitely not be heading back to bed to sleep.

Not arguing with any of the food suggestions above, just think you should give this a try and see if you don't need as much of the jump start from simple sugars or caffeine, and please don't misunderstand I'm a huge fan of caffeine.
