my girlfriend wants to get here thyroid gland checked she is not sure witch test to take. we know its a thyroid test but there is allot. the reason is she has struggled with a weight problem here whole life no matter how much training and proper eating. she just finished breast feeding. so she wants to try T4 " Levothyroxine Sodium" 50mcgs ed sit at around 100mcgs after week 1 total 5 weeks and clen also low dose. any info would be greatly appreciated

    TSH
    T-3
    T-4
for fat burning t-3 is better but can be risky and not recommended unless really know what you are doing plus it does eat muscle too
Thyroid is not something to mess around with since a MAJOR HORMONE

make sure to get all 3 thyroid done...most docs only do TSH and they go from there but to really get a good handle on it you need the breakdown of the t-3 and t-4... (and when you get these lab results you might post in the hormone therapy forum if you want to get some more opinions)

this is the test i can get looks to me it covers everything. its called Thyroid Panel Plus Free T's & TSH,

    Fasting Required: No

    Specimen: Blood

    Tests Included:

Free T3: Evaluate thyroid function and assess abnormal binding protein disorders

Free T4: Free T4 may be indicated when binding globulin (TBG) problems are perceived, or when conventional test results seem inconsistent with clinical observations. It is normal in subjects with high thyroxine-binding globulin hormone binding who are euthyroid (i.e., free thyroxin should be normal in nonthyroidal diseases). It should be normal in familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia.

    Thyroid Panel w/ TSH:
    T-3 Uptake
    T4, total
    T7
    TSH

let me know if thats good enough?

Agree with slimmer t3 t4 tsh will help figure out where the problem is if there is one. If TSH levels are normal and t3 and t4 are low then its an actual thryoid gland issue. TSH is produced in the pituitary gland if i recall correctly. t4 is converted into t3 which is the hormone that raises metabolism. If both are low Docs normally perscribe t4 (synthroid ) if only t3 is low then there is a conversion problem and t3 is perscribed (cytomel ). Hope this is helpfull. Also D7M has a good thread on t3 in the AAS Q&A forum.

no but wherever you get your test results from they should give a normal name. If TSH is low docs normally just percribe t4. If she has a deficiency best to let a doc take care of the perscription

    Free T4: 0.8 – 1.5 ng/dL

    Total T4: 4-12.5 µg/dL

    Serum T3 Resin Uptake: 25-35%

    Free T4 Index: 1.2-4.2

    Total T3: 78-195 ng/dL or 1.2-3 nmol/L

    TSH: 0.25-6.7 µU/mL

    TRH Stimulation Test:
TSH rise of 5µU/mL over baseline (positive)

TRH Stimulation Test: TRH is a hormone secreted by the hypothalamus; Measures the ability of exogenous TRH to stimulate pituitary to release TSH; TRH given IV with TSH levels drawn at baseline and 30-60 minutes

So the hypo tells the pit gland to release TSH and then the TSH gets back to the thyroid to release its hormones. If TSH is low, it would be considered to have a problem with the Pituitary gland itself, or a problem with the hypoth signaling it to release. You would use a TRH test to see if it responds appropriately.

This is what I have in my notes. It would vary a bit from place to place. If anything looks wack, let me know and I will look them back up.
