    Milk while cutting?

I have heard conflicting opinions on this issue, some say it is OK and a good source of certain vitamins and protein while the UNoffical cutting thread sticky says it is a no-no because of the sugar content and and that it will make you look soft and bloated.

    What do you guys think?

I'm talking about fat free milk

I don't believe that milk will make you soft. I've never found anything that supports this. Milk however is an unnessessary simple carb. The carbs from milk are about as useless as sugar. The vitamins in milk are not that significant other than calcium, which is also found in whey protien and in lots of animal protiens. Milk can be fortified with with vitamin D which is absorbed better with calcium. It can be used sparringly in my opnion, but the vitamins and protien from it are easily found in other sources

what Scotty said is spot on.. It's not going to make or break your diet, but there is more sugar in milk then protein so use it as you see fit.

I only use soy milk to mix in with my oatmeal. The diet boys said no to me on milk, even total skim, like machine and scotty said, bad sugar.

Agreed with Scotty for the most part. It depends on how well an individual handles milk, some do much better with it. Having said that, on a cut, i'd generally recommend against it. At the end of the day, lactose is sugar and at 12g/cup, there are better sources you can and should be getting your carbs from.

PS - this is coming from a milk lover, just so you know.

Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I will keep my milk consumption to a minimum while cutting.

Would it be acceptable to mix milk with my whey protein for post work-out? Thats about the only time I would use it

It's about the only time i'd forgive it on a cut - so if you must, then go for it.

Told you that's what they'd say.
