is there such a thing as spot fat reduction

When I was in high school, I used to run stairs really hard for about 30 minutes, 3-4 times a week. Awesome quad/glute workout!! I noticed that my a$$ got hard as a rock. My cardio now, about 8 years later, consists of 30 minutes on a punching bag (hard), and 15 minutes on the ellyptical (interval.....3 minutes moderate, followed by 2 minutes all out, repeat 3 times). Anyways, I am now, overall, the leanest I've ever been. But I've also noticed that my upper body (shoulder detail, back detail, chest, arms, and abs) are really shining! However, my glutes and quads, although lean, are not near as defined and 'hard' as my upper body compared to when I was running stairs. Do you think this has anything to do with using mostly upper body during my cardio without much leg work? Or is all cardio equal as far as fat loss given heart rate is the same on all exercises?

I really want striated glutes!! I've had them before when I wasn't as lean as I am now, so what gives?!?! Any suggestions would be helpful. Please take note that the reason I hit the punching bag instead of run is that I injured my heel about 1 1/2 months ago (doctor said it is tendonitis).

    Can't spot treat fat.

You might not have as much muscle as you did before in your legs.

If glutes is what you aiming for you should think about using the stairmill.

Okay, but why? How would this help to get them striated? Would it eliminate more fat in the glute area, or just add more muscle making them look more lean?

You cannot spot fat reduce. All of those commercials like the 'ab blaster' claiming to help you 'lose inches around the waist' are complete BS. Your genetics will dictate where you lose bodyfat. Working harder on certain areas may help them develop more, muscularly speaking, and once the bodyfat (overall) is lower these areas may appear more developed.

    It's a myth!

You already have striated glutes just as every member on this board does. If they dont appear striated its cause they are being covered by a layer of bodyfat.
