Everyone Bashes This, Your Thoughts?
i was just wondering if instant oatmeal is really that shitty for you? im only 19 and its quick and easy for me and tastes good, im a slight ectomorph and i dont really worry about fat or anything like that
i normally eat three packets in the morning with 5 hard-boiled egg whites
the 3 packets alone are 390 cal/9g fat/78g carbs/9g protein/36g sugar
its got a decent amount of sugar in it, everyone always talks about that, but is it really bad for someone like me who is 19, has a ridiculous metabolism, and is looking to put on mass?

And if you really think you don't have the time (3 min) then just drink them, I just pour them into a bottled water and shake it up and drink/chew. It's actually pretty good.

Im running a comparison search and Im not seeing much of a difference in nutrients between them except that the regular instant does have 80 mg of sodium

What I do honestly in the morning.
get the 1-1.5 cups 100% rolled oats, water and eat plain probably about 80-90% of the time.
If I change up its 1 cup of the rolled oats and a packet of the flavored oat meal. Offseason of course

I use quaker 1 minute(same tub as the old fashioned but i guess cut smaller?)...someone tried telling me the old fashioned had more fiber but i double checked and it had the same...cooks fast....no need for the silly expensive flavored...sometimes a half an apple sometimes raisins , almonds, always splenda

Man up and eat the real oats! They take just as long to cook in the microwave as that packet sh!t... and you don't get all the sugar and preservatives. HUGE deal for somebody in your position? Probably not. But why not pick the better of 2 options?
-
03-10-2011, 09:43 PM #24
yeah ill do that, but i heard splenda is actually awful for your body, my parents always said when they took it, it gave them headaches and its shown to give severe headaches and other side effects

Has anyone tried the No sugar packet kind? its flavored but no sugar.
-

In moderation, I don't think you need to worry about splenda or other artificial sweeteners. It's these people who drink nothing BUT diet soda, etc. who wind up with problems from what i've seen.

I'm probably beating a dead horse but I'll give my standardized reply as this comes up very often.
You're talking about 36g of sugar in your breakfast versus a potential zero. Ectomorph or not, why take in 40g of table sugar when it's no more difficult to just microwave some plan instant oats and pour in a couple packets of stevia. Literally, we're talking about maybe 12 seconds difference in prep time, lol. It's like eating lunch meat if you already had some cooked chicken breasts sliced up in the fridge. Plain silly.

i dont know if i can spare that 12 seconds though, time is crucial :P
ps is lunch meat good to eat? obviously depends on the brand and what you are eating, but like is a ham sandwich awful for you? cause, im a sucker for a good ham and cheese and mustard sandwich, come one now, who isnt hahahah
