is whey protein shake with oats a good start to the day as far as getting protein in for the first meal as i dont have time to cook eggs or so first thing, so will a shake do first thing till i eat meat a couple hours later ??

I'd personally do a blended protein, i.e. whey + casein, something like that. They whey is great first thing in the morning but won't hold you for very long. Adding casein (or using something like Myofusion or another protein blend) will prolong digestion and keep aminos in the bloodstream longer.
