    White rice Brown rice

I know brown rice is good for you but what is wrong with white rice?
im currently deployed and they serve white rice every meal almost. would it be a bad idea to pick it up on one of my meals.
Also when i get back from deployment im married to a korean and she eats rice religiously. i enjoy korean white rice also.
how much of a difference are we talking?

This topic has been beaten to death on this forum, you should do a simple search and you'll find a thousand opinions.

IMO, what's 'wrong' with white rice is it's a carb that's devoid of any nutrients. It's refined brown rice, stripped of it's husk so the benefit of fiber among other things is lost. Why eat something inferior to the 'real thing'?

Yup, really tired of this argument. A natural food with its nutritional value intact vs. the same food after being stripped of everything but it's starch, lol. Ridiculous.

LOL - that doesn't make it a better choice or even a similarly good choice - only that it has it's place when done right. I.E. when you don't need to supplement fiber intake and you want an insulin spike. The average guy, not Jay Cutler or a lifting coach, will get fat eating white rice instead of whole grains in several meals daily.

    Basmati is King

I would rater eat white basmati rice for a few reasons....

I dont really care about the faibe that im not getting since I eat plenty of other ( much more nutrient dense) vegetables that provide me with plenty of fiber

Because is is quicker to cook

    Because it tastes 10x better

Because it is easier to eat

Because it does not 'fill you up' as much

Because it is fairly low on the GI scale for a white rice and is not far from brow rice anyway.... Pluss the fact that the GI of carbohydrates is massivly dependent on other food intake at the time...

Do I eat brown rice.... Sometimes ( brown basmati )

I look at it like this. Will it make a big difference results wise - probably not. Nutritionally, however, brown rice is clearly better. My thoughts on many things have changed/evolved. Initially entering into this lifestyle i thought , due to mostly what i read in mags, brown rice was superior for building muscle blah blah blah. It isnt. However my thought process then evolved to looking twords what is nutritionally better in my food choices. This lifestyle , contrary to popular belief, isnt always the healthiest. Continued stress on the body , AAS use , many focus on hyperatrophy with little emphasis on cardiovascular health. Given this , it just makes sesne to eat food that are healthiest overall for the body. Proper nutrition is crutial IMO to help aid in overall health - especially given the added stresses i mentioned above. Early on it wasnt about how things tatsed , it still to a point isnt. However now i ENJOY these foods. What is a cheat meal now at times would have been considered healthy by me prior to this lifestyle. Dont get me wrong sometimes i eat a true "cheat" but often my cheat is actually healthy by normal standards. Due to the acclimation of eating healthy - it feels like a cheat to me.
It just makes sense IMO to eat nutritionally dense foods with greater overall health benefits.
