Protein intake - is double bodyweight necessary?

I have designed my diet for my cycle of test e and dbol that I am starting tomorrow. I'll be eating 4000 kcals per day and consuming 242 grams of protein a day. Is this enough for me at 180 lbs? Is it absolutely necessary to have double your bodyweight in grams of protein or have you guys madw nice gains with less. It's just hard for me to take in more protein than this as I am on a budget and may not be able to down more than that anyway.

I don't know if your needs change on a cycle, but I think the standard is 1.5 per lb. I'm sure someone with some cycling knowledge will give you a more complete answer.

What's your body composition like at 180 lbs? Body fat %/build type dictates a lot.

The steroids will increase protein synthesis, just throw a couple of shakes in there on top of your 242 grams and you will be getting close. IMO

You see many guys that don't get the results they want from a cycle due to not getting the right food while on.

as nephets said the most i have heard as standard is going 1.5times your bodyweight. i feel like if you were going 360g protein a day that would be a little much for your body to handle and could cause some harm to your kidneys.

Well you need to read a bit more.

We are talking while on a cycle, big difference.

Higher protein intakes do not cause any damage whatsoever to healthy kidneys, it's a a myth

That would mean protein is only 24% of your diet. That's probably too low (given your weight only a little low), but IMO you may be taking in too many calories in general. Listing your stats and diet will give the guys on here a better idea as to help answer your question.

if that is only 24% that is pretty low. i would suggest bumping that up to about 35% at a minimum. im doing a clean bulk 300cal about maintenance at 2500cal and my protein is just about as high as yours.

1.5g/lb of LEAN mass is pretty standard. 1.5g of total bodyweight is not. That said, while one I would consider 1.5 - 1.75g of total bodyweight - this due to the higher level of protein synthesis as mentioned above.

Make carbs your biggest macro. As somebody else mentioned, your total calories are probably already too high, which is why your protein intake seems low when you look at it from a percentage standpoint. With the right foods, i'm quite sure you don't need more than 3500 calories, if that.
