    Eat or not while drinking?

If I'm going to be in Vegas for two days, having a number of drinks each day, is it best to drink a protein shake every 2 1/2 - 3 hours while drinking alcohol, or just eat a protein rich meal before, and after? Basically what I'm asking is if the protein I eat while drinking will be absorbed, or will it be denatured in the stomach and become useless?

Yes eat lots of protien but not from shakes! Try to get it all form animal sources. It helps with muscle deterioration and helps your body bounce back faster and minimalize catabolism. Just from my experience tho

I would try and get your protein in wherever possible. The protein will be absorbed, that's not the issue. The issue is alcohol is linked to muscle breakdown - let's not even talk about the carb/sugar content.

Get it from shakes if you have to, just make sure you get it.

I will be drinking Smirnoff Blue Vodka (b/c it's 100 proof), and diet sodas in order to minimize sugar/carb intake. It's good to hear the protein will be absorbed, I have come across conflicting information on that subject. Some of what I have heard is: the alcohol in your system will be used in its entirety before your body goes about processing the standard protein/carbs/fats in your system.

I have also heard that when the protein mixes with the alcohol in your stomach the protein will be denatured and become worthless.

Thanks for the input in my thread so far!

Alcohol metabolizes as sugar. So doesn't really matter what you drink!

No, it doesn't. It metabolizes in to acetates, and from there carbon dioxide and water.

However, alcohol IS the first source of energy your body will use up, so you can forget about any fat burning going on while you're drinking.

Alcohol does denature proteins but alcohol and proteins are the only things absorbed in the stomach(minus H20 and a few other things) so the alcohol won't have time to denature the proteins, nor would it really matter if did since the proteins will be broken down by endopeptidase and exopeptidase into animo acids anyway.

Your looking to far into it

Just take one calcium casinate shake before heading out

If your dieting stick to spirits

Take a multi and 500ml's of water before drifting off to sleep

Ah good point, ok so how do acetates affect insulin and glucagon?

    Hi,
I think you must take protein but you can have protein bars, proteins pan cakes or protein cake instead of focusing on protein shakes only.
If you are interested do PM me I will share some recipes with you.
