    Why??

Hey guys may sound stupid to you but just something I would like explained in more detail.

    1. Muscles start to catabolize after three hours without protein, correct?

    2. What about fats and carbs? How long can your body go without before it starts to affect your muscles? And how does your muscles utilize these?

Sorry if it's basic info guys but hope someone can explain it a bit more.

    my take on the subject

our body needs constant supply of energy, amminos and etc to keep working.things like brain, heart and other vital organs need food 24 hrs a day to keep working and that is the foremost important thing for the body that is to stay alive.

now body has only got few food/energy sources like fat, muscles and whatever might be in our stomach.muscles are the only amino reserve of our body.when our body doesnt have the constant supply of food/energy for vital functions or to meet the increased demand lets say by physical activity then it dips into the reserves.this is when catabolism happens

    now back to your question

1)I dont think muscle start to break down cause they are not getting food but your body will start breaking them down when it needs energy or amminos for more vital stuff.muscle do need energy even when you are resting(so they say) and if our body hasn't got energy for muscles it will get rid off what it cant afford.

2)fat and carbs are energy source nothing else.we eat them to meet our body's energy demand to function, repair and grow.if our body dosent have them then body will switch to protein or muscle when it needs energy.that's why we eat them regularly to spare protein and muscle for energy source's

Your body does not go catabolic and start eating your muscle after 3 hours. If it did sleeping would totally mess up trying to build muscle.

It takes your body a while to digest the food you've eaten (especially mixed meals) so even hours after you've eaten your body is still leaching glucose, fatty acids, and amino acids from the food you've eaten.

The break down of what your body uses for energy fat vs. glucose vs. amino acids depends on a myriad of factors.

Bottom line is that it doesn't really matter what your body is burning in the short term as long as over the long term it is using fat and glucose for energy and not so much amino acids to run.

Also, if you're making progress in your goals i.e. building muscle and burning fat. I'd argue that it doesn't really matter why you're making progress.

If you are not making progress, post up what you're doing and we can check it out and see if we can help.

(hope I don't ruffle too many feathers)

Just to cover it although I think it's been done already....

There are too many variable factors to consider before either could be true...

    Age
    Weight
    Bodyfat%
    lifestyle
    Training?
    Cardio?
    Calorie intake
    Drugs
    Foods eaten
