fruit/high gi carbs??
When bumping up cals a bit, assuming I'm already getting plenty of carbs from complex sources (about 420 grams from brown rice, oats, whole wheat pasta), would it be okay to add, say, a banana to my oats in the morning and another one to my pwo shake consisting of 2 scoops of whey and 1 1/2 cups of oats?
I really can't stomach anymore complex carbs throughout the day, and I'm sure most of you will agree that a piece of fruit (banana) consisting of about 30 grams of carbs is easier to get down than 1/2 cup of rice lol!
I know some of you are against fruit for a carb source as it mostly replensishes liver glycogen as opposed to muscle gly. Can I still reap the benefits of the additional cals while bulking with the bananas (for example)??
I'm sure there's mixed opinions on this; would like to hear them.

I'd say have the fruit. A caloric surplus is going to be your number one enemy in terms of gaining bodyfat, not a carb source. Having said that, I WOULD play it safe and eat fruits at the meals you specified - especially if you're predisposed to gaining bodyfat.

Thanks, GB. Thing is, I'm really not too worried about gaining a bit of body fat. I'm an ectomorph and, on top of that, I'll be going on a 14 week cut around Jan or Feb next year. Just trying to put on as much size as I can right now.
What I'm mostly concerned about is will I benefit from the carbs from these fruits as far as putting on size? Obviously, more complex carbs would be superior; but how do you feel about the cals from the fruit? Will they help? Please remember we're talking about gaining lbm here; not concerned about any potential fat gain.
Thanks!

Well, in this case i'm going to say a calorie is a calorie; let's say adding fruit puts you 500 calories over maintenance. If the calories from the fruit aren't what specifically adds weight, it'll be calories from other sources. The point being is that at the end of the day, you'll be in a caloric surplus one way or the other.
An oversimplification on my part, but I think you get the picture.
