    CKD - Cyclical Ketogenic Diet

As i have read may posts here i see a lot of people talking about CKD and until now that i actually researched it a bit i kind of understand what it means and stuff. I used several times the search tab here to find some threads but it came up empty each time. So i wanted with this thread shed some light on CKD with the helps of those master minds out there who know about the subject, give some good references we can read on, perhaps links to some threads i couldn't find, explain how this diet works, what to keep in mind when on it, necessary steps to lose fat and not precious muscle, etc. So please go ahead and start giving your opinions and also if you have done it, did it work for you and perhaps post your diets or ratios.

I am very interested in learning about this type of diet and i'm sure there are a few out there who are also interested and will find this thread helpful.

If by any chance this has been done before i apologize in advance, as i mentioned i did try searching but i came up empty each time.

Your body preferentially runs on carbs as an energy source, and when carbs run out your body can very easily turn protein into carbs and you can lose muscle. By taking carbs out of your diet your body will adapt to this by creating ketone bodies from you fat, and these ketones will be your new energy source, as ketones can only be created from fat, your body will not degrade muscle tissue. Therefore you will burn more fat and less muscle than a regular low calorie diet. The reason you must carb re-feed weekly is to give yourself energy for workouts. If only relying on ketones your lifting will be useless and you muscles will turn to rubber after only a couple sets.
It takes about 3 days to achieve ketosis and during those three days you will feel shitty and stupid because your body is adapting to the new diet, most people say the shittyness can last up to 2 weeks but i was find after my first 4 days. If you make a mistake and eat too many carbs you will be out of ketosis but if you exercise immediately you could get back into ketosis quite quickly. After my weekly re-feed i can be back into ketosis after my workout the following day.
You must consume lots of fibre as your main carb source otherwise you going to have problems on the toilet, broccoli is the popular choice here.
