I am happy when I am cutting just so I don't get those. Mine are made a lot worse by eating many kinds of foods though (or maybe one kind of food that I haven't identified). When I eat only chicken, rice, eggs, oatmeal, almonds, broccoli and asparagus I don't get a lot of gas. Throw a bunch of different foods in my belly and I have problems.

Make sure you don't have lactose intolerance. If I eat a little bit of cottage cheese I blow up like a balloon.

Myself and my girlfriend have been getting them pretty bad here lately too...I don't know if it the protein or what, but we just make a game out of it. Maybe give that shot. If your gf can shoot em right back at you, maybe it'll relieve some of her tension too!!!

Ironically I just read something on this. It said normally all gas is from carbs or allergies to componnents of protein (ie lactose intloerance)-all of that i do know to be true.
It went on to say if there is more protein than the body can break down it makes it undigested to the lower intestine and causes gas- i also know gas is formed in the lower intestine.
Their conclusion- In the abscence of an allergy or from carbs accompanying the protein - its a sign that too much protein is being consumed.

Not saying its fact - take it for what its worth. It makes sense to me.
ps- it was a medical write up- not a BB write up.

maybe digestive enzyme supp. papain and bromelain. both are enzymes required to digest protein. natural sources include papaya and pineapple. you can buy supplements cheap- like under $10. May help-i dunno....

LMAO. I think his computer started smoking and caught fire as he posted so many threads in such a short time so he's out of commission for a bit.

I would try a fiber supplement like metamucil or citrucel and up the water intake in addition to the digestive enzymes like jimmy said.

if you pass excessive gas is that not a good indication that you are over eating the proteins ? is that not a signal to back off the proteins ?

If you can prove it's excess protein then reduce your numbers. If you're eating over 250g grams protein daily it's likely you are overeating that macro anyway. Dependant of course on your lean mass and/or the make up of your other macro's.

Normally, as Jimmy's report says, it is to do with the carbs you ingest and your body's (in)ability to break them down. I would recommend bromelain inbetween meals to anybody with digestion issues or even to those who do have a high protein diet ie most of us.

Personaly I would try and ID the culprit. eg Swap out broccoli for another veg, or oats for sweet pots. Maybe reduce your protein and see if that works.

If that's all you're eating it's unlikely due to excess protein. Try and pinpoint what it is. Are you bulking?

Your protein is particularly high but you have reduced your carbs to take that into account. And I'm pretty sure that, as things are going well, you won't be reducing your protein and making it up with carbs?! Besides, your own farts smell pretty good to yourself!

I remember when I use to take high protein AND high carbs I used to have an issue with that as well..
I still take high protein but the rest of my diet is very clean with a lot less carbs than before. No seasoning - spices etc. So now I do not have gas issues. So it might be a combination of things mixing up in your system.

I think Jimmy hit the nail on the head. Either your body is somewhat alergic to something you are eating (I'm quessing Oats is your culprit) or your body isn't processing all the protein you are throwing at it. I myself get these excessive farts when I'm bulking and my main carb source is Oats. I switched to Ezekial bread and my body must process these a lot better as the farts have been drastically reduced. Digestive enzymes could help most and I have also found that popping a few Tums right after a meal helps too!
