    Depression while on cutting diet?

anyone else experience this?? i used the guide in the nutrition section to find the correct macro count while cutting with 300 cal deficit. currently not on anabolics. only eat whole foods during the day with the exception of a post workout shake. supplementation is whey, pre-workout supp, and ECA during the day, BCAA while working out. maybe its just that its winter that is making me feel down.. been pretty good about sticking to the diet, just cant shake the depression! lol

How long have you been on the cut? It could be a combination of things, but potentially hormonal. What does your macro split look like?

And how big of a change is that from how you usually eat?

40/40/20 ensures you're getting plenty of each macro, provided you didn't severely miscalculate calories. How is your strength and energy throughout the day? Do u feel depressed certain times of day more than others? How are you sleeping?

I experience this every time I diet. And also seem to not be tired and night but always tired in the mornings. I am also very sensitive to things people say that normally I would just blow off or not let affect me. I have yet to find the solution, though sometimes it is more prevalent then others I have yet to personally find a pattern. I have yet to remain on a diet long enough to discover if there is some sort of wall that you break through where this doesn't happen, and I have stayed strict on an eating program for up to two months consistently(at least consistenlty for me, which has included weekly cheat meals or days). It helps to some small degree knowing that my calorie restriction is partly the cause so I can try to pep-talk my way through it. I don't have any suggestions to help you, but wanted you to know that you aren't alone.

before the cut i was bulking, and was +500 over maintenance. sleep wise, i goto bed between 10-11pm and wake up at 7-7:30am sometimes during the night depending if i have to goto the bathroom. if that occurs its usually at 3-4am.

strength wise. im pretty much the same as during the bulk, maybe alittle less if i stay in the 12-15 rep range, or push more weight than during the bulk if i stick in the 8-10 range.

i dont know if my sodium or potassium is depleted because yesterday i couldnt even get a pump in my chest or triceps. physically it was difficult to do the movement like usual, but no pump, if that makes sense?

i usually have a cheat meal on friday or saturday and then clean eating sunday. and when i say cheat meal,, i dont mean burgers and fries or pizza,, i mean have something like sushi with maybe a spicy mayo on the roll or something.

That amount of water is gonna flush ALOT of stuff from your body. Can you consider maybe even halving the amount?

I don't consider sushi a cheat meal. I think that is a meal God created for body-builders(not the cream cheese versions). The last I knew the recommendation for hydration was .55oz of water per pound of bodyweight per day plus 8 oz for every hour spent exercising or in the sun.

    also, i fat fingered a 3 instead of a 5. having trouble concentrating today. its a 500cal def not a 300.

here is the math that i used from the "unofficial guide to cutting" on this forum

    step 1: 66+(1056.42)+(838)-(170) = 1790.42 BMR
    step 2: 1790.42 x 1.2 = 2148.504 TDEE
step 3: choose a calorie deficit in the range of 300-500. I choose 500. making my daily allotment 1648.504 Calories

    protein: 164.75g
    carbs: 164.75g
    fats: 36.3664g

    workout day diet:

    11am meal 2: p27.485 f6.10556
    2pm meal 3 : p27.485 f6.10556
    5pm: Preworkout nutrition - p27.485 c54.916 f6.10556
    6pm: workout
    7pm: cardio
    8pm: meal 5 : Post-workout nutrition - p27.485 c54.916 f6.10556
    10am : meal 6 : Bedtime meal : p27.485 f6.10556

also, the times i listed were just guide lines for the day, they will adjust if i sleep alittle later or get to bed later. but one fact that stays the same is that i eat every 3 hours. with carbs only when i wake up and pre and post workout. every other meal has no carbs

    Need more info please.
    Is this your first cut?
If not did you have the depression last time?
Possible a combination of other things and coincidence that it is during the cut?
Biggest question is are you depressed all the time or does it come and go? What brings you out of it?
    Are you TRT?
You say CURRENTLY not on anabolics. - When was your last cycle and how did it go?

Get back to me with this and in the meantime peak out your vitamin intake. Get off caffiene if your on. Cold turkey. Take headache pills if you need to but get off it now. (take tylenol or similar - not asprin or similar. Asprin arguably hinders muscle gain)

first serious cut. all other cuts were illguided attemps that lost alot of fat at the expense of muscle. no depression during those, just was happy to not be in size 40 pant lol.

combination? nah, just happy stuff going on around me like my wife not being pregnant

for the most part i think im happy most of the time. when im not is usually the winter, but michigan weather has been mild this winter so far. working out or sex usually brings me out of my funk. seeing my tricep horseshoe progress brings a smile lol.

age 25. not on trt. no insurance.

    last cycle was m-drol

    weeks 1-6 contained cycle assist
weeks 2-6 was drol at 10/20/20/20
then 4 weeks of pct with tamoxifen citrate and pct assist.

plenty of fish oil during entire time.
took about 3 weeks for balls to drop back.
never lost sexual desire entire cycle.
the day i stopped drol i started having crippling back pain.
    taurine solved it within hours.
cycle went great got leaner ever though i gained 12 pounds.

Yeah Bro Honestly I really don't see this being diet related. Appears to be more environment.
Something like Seasonal Affective Disorder maybe? It has been well documented that the winter season affects a lot of people maybe your one of them. I know I am. (and 50% of people I know LOL)

Let's see.......... sex brings you out of it. Hmmm. Now if only you could get a prescription.... LOL Sounds like you know what to do! Get to it.

im surprised such a small deficit of 300cals would cause that... i just some keto dieting at 800-1000cal deficit, and there were times where i was sooo depressed. then i would have a cheat meal and i would feel sooo happy and remember what normal felt like

as for the Seasonal Affective Disorder i find that going to a tanning salon 1-2 times a week during the snowy parts of the winter make me feel much better

I checked out tanning places on saturday. Nothing available in' the morning cause my town is lame, so i'll just have to decide if it's worth pushing my workout back.
