    Help me eat tuna guys!!!

    What's up all, GB here...

It's been a while since I've eaten canned tuna, but I need to start again because quite frankly i'm getting sick of the foods I've been relying on day in and day out.

I LOVE tuna salad... lots of mayo, diced veggies, etc... but obviously that's out of the question, so i'm looking for a healthy/clean alternative. I need it to be something quick and easy, that can be eaten cold. i.e. no recipes that need to be cooked ahead of time or anything like that, just a simple (hopefully delicious, or at the very least tolerable) quick recipe I can toss together with some fresh ingredients, herbs, lemon juice, etc. I recall a recipe with lemon juice and maybe tabasco? Idk, but please share if you've got something!!!

Note - I'm using solid white albacore tuna packed in water - way too dry to eat straight out of the can - I wouldn't last 2 days eating that way.

I found this here a few years back and eat them everyday. I change it up with the ingredients every so often. Right now i use less oatmeal as im cutting back on carbs

It takes about 2 minutes in a skillet. I know you said nothing to prepare but if you have a skillet available it is very easy

Drain the water in the can, replace with some Pickle Juice so it's not so dry and sprinkle some Cayenne Pepper on top of it- good eatin'...

If you like tuna salad try this:

2 cans of tuna (chuck light, so you'll need to refigure the below macros)
    4 Egg Whites - Diced
    1/2 cup diced pickles
    1/2 cup diced green onions
    1/2 cup diced celery
1/3 cup fat free mayo (I buy Kraft - Macros for 1 tbs are 11/0/2/0 with only 1g coming from sugar)
1/4 cup or less to taste of Brown Mustard

It makes about 24oz. 6 oz comes out to something like 95cals - .5g fat - 4.5 Carbs - 18g Protein (Rough Estimate)

I know with 2 slices of whole grain bread it comes to 242cals 3.6g Fat 28.5g Carbs 24g Protein.

With the exception of boiling the eggs - it takes about 10 min to dice and mix everything up in a bowl.

It's amazing sometimes how timely these posts can be. I spent two hours today reading and designing a better diet and then I realized I missed tuna as a protein source but I didn't like the idea of choking it down plain out of a bag. Thanks for the recipes guys. TJ

oh I just noticed you wanna stay clear of mayo when making it a salad... I have tried it and even the kids like it with just oil/vin/spices or lemon juice and spices, or if you can find it (challenging) oils from other stuff than olives...avacado oil/ lemon oil/ orange oil/hemp oil are all good and light but give it the moisture needed to eat cold..maybe add peper flacks for a kick or jalapino juice

Thanks for all your input guys! I've been experimenting and I've come up with something i'm pretty happy with. I'll continue to tweak it, and would love your own input if you're up to it.

1 large (7oz) can tuna in water (I used the solid white albacore, Kirkland/Costco brand) - drained

1/4 cup diced vegetables - I finely diced up green and red bell peppers and celery. You can add whatever you like - onion, etc.

1tbsp relish - yes, it's a few grams of sugar, yes the sugar is HFCS. We're talking about a few grams here guys, and it really adds a lot of flavor. If you're that concerned, chop up a pickle or omit this all together.

1tbsp (13g) mayo - I used full fat Hellman's (only way to go IMO), because my macros allow me some leeway with fat. For a 7oz can of tuna, 1tbsp of mayo hardly makes a big difference, so you can use low fat/fat free, or omit this all together.

    juice of 1/2 lemon

fresh cracked black pepper - to taste

tabasco sauce - to taste (I used about 3 dashes)

Mix it all together and enjoy. Sweet/hot flavor, cuts the bland and dry flavor of the tuna, and the veggies add a nice crunchy texture. Next time I think i'll omit the mayo and add sliced black olives... let's see what you got!!!

Usually I just eat my tuna with mustard but if I take the time to make it taste a little better I mix the tuna with some salsa.....Salsa really makes it much easier to get down and not as boring as usual...I also really like sriracha sauce which gives it a better taste with a little heat.

I also like tuna with onion, celery, pickles, and green olives with mayo but you can just switch that out with mustard.

And actually, one of my favorites of all is mixing the tuna with relish

Tin of tuna drained, lemon juice, black pepper and sweet pepper.

Or stick it in a shake and gulp it down hardcore.

What's with all these low protein counts? I get my protein from Asda and it's something like 70p per can with roughly 35g protein per can.

What I do is drain the spring water from the can, empty both on to a plate and cover it with low cal/low salt ketchup. Or if you are bulking and need carbs, I suggest getting a bowl, empty the 2 cans into it, and then emptying a can of baked beans on top. Whack it in a microwave for 2 minutes and eat with a spoon! You can barely taste the tuna and you've just had 90 grams of protein in one meal!
