    portion size question

When you guys list meat in your diet (ie 4oz of chicken) is that raw or cooked?

also when you list oats or brown rice, is it usually dry or cooked?

    thanks!

Yeah, that is kinda weird... I do the meat cooked, and everything else raw.

    I weigh meat cooked.

Oats I always list as dry since I have no idea what they cook up to. For example, I eat a half cup oats in the morning. I measure out a half cup, add water and nuke.

Rice seems to always be cooked since we tend to cook it in large batches and scoop it out. If someone said one cup rice and meant that was the dry measurement, I wouldn't even know how to cook it.

Your welcome for making it more confusing.

Uncooked. If you cook chicken for 20 mins it will weigh more than if you cool it for 30. It weighs the same at the start so use that.

Same for rice, pasta, potatoes etc, they either absorb or lose liquid as they cook so use uncooked weight.

A cup of uncooked rice would end up being, like, 3 cups cooked, right?

Depends what type of rice and how long you cook it for.

Wow, I am now eternally grateful to my nutrition coach for putting notes like "cooked" and "dry" in my menu plan.
