Sushi: GTG or a No No?

    Hey guys

What's up with tuna or salmon suhi rolls they contain both fat from fish and carb from rice thusly making them a no no according to the stickie which teaches us never combine carb and fat right?

Rainbow Roll has the best Macro split with 33g of protein. Most rolls are low in protein and high in carbs. I usually eat sushi once a week and consider it a semi-cheat meal.

i think it depends on your goal...but there are sooooo many possibilities with susshi that can range from brown rice to no rice seaweed wraps or lettus wraps or even cucmber shells

the pre-made store packaged stuff prob wont be best (like pre-seasoned pre-made store burger patties) but you can make or order sushi in any combo to meet your cuttng or bulking plan (like making your own burger patty at home with gound chicken veg and lentils)

Some of the sticky's are admittedly outdated. There's nothing wrong with carbs and fat together, however I personally prefer one to be dominant over the other. i.e. if I have a heavy carb meal ( >40g in my case), I try to minimize fat in said meal. Conversely, if I have a relatively high fat meal, I try to keep carbs to a minimum. Personal preference.

As has already been stated, some of those stickies are dated.

I don't worry about carbs and fats being combined. Worrying about the fat in some salmon you are getting with rice is making it overly complicated.

Having a decent amount of rolls can be very high in total calories especially if you are a big eater and they are damn good rolls. In fact I save sushi for my cheat day.

Funny you mention it, I just went nuts at an all you can eat sushi place yesterday. I had 36 pieces of sashimi (straight raw fish), and I had 7 rolls. I probably was WAY over maintenence calories last night, and as a result I am fasting all day today, with a small meal before bed so I can sleep (800-1000 cals).

Anyhow I think sushi and sashimi together makes a great cheat meal. High protein, but plenty of carbs.

Several well known IFBB Pros are huge fans of sushi for cheat meals. Gunter Schlierkamp was one of them, and I've heard Cutler also is a fan.

I don't really eat sashimi that much bcos my grocery store only sells tuna steaks, but consuming them raw is too risky IMO

I stick strictly to sashimi and order a very small portion of rice. I even take my portable scale to the restaurant and even weigh each piece of sashimi for my nutrition log!!! Lol

I applaud u for using the scale to weigh everything u eat. Personally I didn't get to that point yet when I make an entry I just eyeball weight or pick suggested serving in my calorie app.

It's not easy but helps because I log/journal every piece of food and macro so I can track my dailies in an effort to maintain my nutritional goals.

That is HARD FN CORE Brotha!

I keep a log too and it does suck when you have to estimate a meal. Who are we kidding when we estimate right! "oh i would say i had about 80g carbs for that meal" sub-contiously my brain knows it was over 200 haha.

You have no idea. No food goes in my gut without weighing it and writing down macros. Ever.

Everything and I mean everything gets measured. If its something I don't have macros for I have several apps that are great for giving very real estimates, but most of the time I don't buy any food unless macros and serving sizes are listed.

A lot has to do with genetics and nutrition. My arms and abs grow well. Everything else is a bitch!

thx for that dude! i havent done any abs to speak of yet! ud think as important as they are to me (the most important) id be a little more ambitious LOL..!! my bf% has been as low as 7.8% with 9site calipers and i could only barely see them. needless to say it is a bit frustrating esp when i see guys saying they are 13-14% and have abs.. maybe if i start working them theyll pop?? what u think? i figure weighted would prob help..

i saw u had back extensions in there. im curious? is it for lower back flab/muscles?? like a good morning? with weight?
