    immune system/nutrition/training

didn't know which place to post this, move it if it fits somewhere else. it seems that whenever i lay off the weights for a month or two, and get back after it, that my immune system really takes a toll. i supplement multi-vits and try to eat clean, so wondering if i ought to take a slower approach when starting back up? i don't go heavy and try to kill myself the first time back in but i do push myself to the point of exhaustion. just wondering if others have experienced this and if so, what are some ways to combat it. thanks

weight lifting does stress the body. and it does take a while for the body to adapt and get used to it. However, I've never observed anyone to suffer an imuno response from beginning to weight lift. Are you getting sick? how do you know your immune system is taking a toll?

felt as if i was getting a cold and just over all feel. not getting sick, at least i don't feel/think so. it has happened to me the past two times i have laid off the weights. i have always had a shitty immune system, ever since i was a young tike.

    what i do is this.

if i've laid off the weights for awhile, i will usually give my self some time to get used to it. the fist week, i'll go real light, just to get the muscles used to working. Second week is the bridge week. third week I am usually g2g.

I do this because i am trying to avoid injury. maybe you should try it to avoid your perceived weakened imuno system response?

I do upper / lower split when i first start back for 2 -3 weeks.....then i go to a more traditional split. I also dont go real heavy etc.I focus on strict form and pump those first 3 weeks or so...get back into the groove.

This is the key to your problem IMO. When you work out, your body has to go through the breakdown/repair process, requiring additional energy, etc etc etc. It makes sense to me that this could compromise 'existing' immune functions when we consider the fact that you already have a less than healthy immune system.

yes, takes me a little longer to heal in every fashion. i bruise easy, had a bone cyst as a teenager (broke my right humerous bone twice 11 & 13 throwing a baseball), staph infection twice, and have asthma.
