I am using this exclusively. I used to use splenda and used truvia from time to time but it is so much better. I have truvia in my coffe now and will be using it from now on.
Which if any artificial sweetener do you use ?

Jimmy,
When I can get it I use stevia exclusively, but it's not an artificial sweetener it's a sugar alternativeWhen I can't get stevia I prefer to use agave nectar or honey. FWIW, becareful with Truvia since it contains Maltodextrin, a nearly ubiquitous food additive that does affect many people negatively.
I use truvia only at the moment.
My understanding is that it is a mix of stevia and erythritol (a naturally occurring polyol). Erythritol is the main ingredient rather than the stevia.
Maybe the U.S. version is different to that in the UK but there's no maltodextrin in it over here. There are other stevia blends, however, that do contain it.
NO SOURCES GIVEN
I use trivia almost exclusively now and like it better in every way.
Never seen it with maltodextrin though?
Used to use a TON of Splenda but always felt iffy about it... I don't like putting that crap in my body. Nowadays, I use Stevia (Truvia or Purevia, whatever is cheaper at the time) almost exclusively. I throw in splenda once in a while, but have come to like the taste of Stevia better - plus, I find it much sweeter than Splenda.
I was always afraid of the potential of stevia being a carcinogen.Bc of this post I did some research and it turns out that there was only limited data showing the mutagenic effects of stevia in lab rats and this was due to a metabolite caused by a bacteria in their gastrointestinal tract. I've been avoiding stevia ever since the news reports of its alleged cancer promoting effects. I guess I should've looked into this a while ago. I guess I will be picking up some stevia in the near future. Thanks for the post.
Recently I've been using aspartame based sweetener. Anyone got any opinions on aspartame?
hit the bullseye. truvia is something like only 5% stevia, and the rest is other shit. I purchased a kilo (or was it a pound) of pure Stevia several months ago for $50 and still have over half left. 300x sweeter than sugar.
pure stevia is expensive, but a little goes a long way.................
I only use stevia.Originally Posted by Times Roman

Yep, diet soda is typically sweetened using aspartame. I remember when they used to market it as Nutrasweet. I've heard people say they'd rather stick with the HFCS in soda rather than aspartame. Idk that I agree to that extent, but still, it's worth looking into. Personally, I try to avoid both. 1 can of diet soda/day is about it for me.
There's so many contradictory studies on aspartame, one I recently read said you could consume 2L of diet pop a day for a life time with no adverse effects. Others say it turns to formaldehyde inside your body. The tests were done on rats, we are not rats. One rat died so it became a harmful substance. Also read aspartame is the bi product of a bacteria taking a shit, not sure if theres much truth behind that....
As far as drinking it goes nothing beats a cold can of diet dike occasionally.

Those who pointed out the alcohol sugar in the Truvia rather than the maltodextrin as I thought it was, were correct. I mixed up Truvia and my aunt's stevia blended sweetener. My apologies.
Girly, you are correct that my alternatives are higher in carbs, but they are actually less stress on the system than alcohol sugars and some of the other additives put with Stevia in order to make it more cost effective for manufacturers. Hence, I prefer the liquid stevia drops from an organic source, but I avoid sweeteners almost entirely.
No, they're not the same.... Stevia is from a plant by the same name..
....or hey!
you can just do without?
Anybody know how the different sweeteners effect blood sugar for diabetics? I currently use splenda and have come to like it but if the others are better for me I would gladly change.
stevia is great. I always take it with me to sweeten my coffee on the go.
aspartame: my wife is allergic and will go into anaphylactic shock with the ingestion of even a very small amount of aspartame.
i use stevia (the kroger or wal mart brand exclusively)
